I can confirm that this thing is a real beast! Made some high speed crashes with it and not a scratch, flies great and even did some night flying - the white light on the bottom litterly lights the ground

One nit-pick on the details is that the Red Tail Mustangs were flown by the Tuskegee Airmen, all of whom were black, while the pilot figure in this model is white. When WWII started, blacks in the military were relegated to mostly menial duties, and there was a heavy bias that they were not capable of handling such demanding tasks as piloting fighter aircraft. The Tuskegee Airmen helped break down many of the initial barriers to integration in the military, and distinguished themselves with exemplary performance on many combat missions. Again, I'm being nit-picky, but those brave men deserve to be remembered for who they were, and all that they stood and fought for.

You guys should really look at the Volantex 500mm mustang. Similar to that green 400mm mustang you just reviewed but it is brushless, runs on 2s, steerable tail wheel. It is more scale and is just overall an upgraded 400mm warbird. I predict in the near future these brushless 500mm upgraded warbirds will start to replace the eachine/Volantex/rage etc 400mm series. Excited to see what comes next

Salutations Saylors! I currently have four (4) XK airplanes, P-40 Warhawk, T-28 Trojan, F8F Bearcat “Rare Bear”, and the larger J3 Cub “Skylark”. I have not yet assembled the J3 Cub, but it has a brushless motor and is very detailed. Of the three (3) smaller ones, the F8F “Rare Bear” is my favorite, and it flies the best of the three also, however, it does not have a brushless motor, and neither do the others. It does fly very well though. I have been contemplating purchasing this P-51 for some time, and now that you have reviewed it for us, I think I will be adding it to my collection, although I also have a UMX P-51 with the 19” inch wingspan and brushless motor, and I also have their smaller P-51 with the 16” inch wingspan and the brushed motor, and it was my first P-51, and I have flown it many times for years. This one looks like a winner, and I really like P-51’s and this one is ideally suited for night flying. Thanks for sharing! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨✈️

Don't forget to put a small timer on the transmitter. There is no warning for battery drain and you'll want to have it on the ground before the battery dies.

If you are interested in this plane, go for it! It's an amazing plane! Flies so good! What I did was unplug all the lights except, the wingtip lights and the underlight. Did i mention that it is SUPER durable? It's a real beast. It's an amazing airplane! 10/10!

I modify this XK A280 to 3s with a buck converter to supply 8.4 volts to the receiver, a 12 amp esc and a 7X4E propeller. This provides unlimited vertical and impressive speed passes, will also giving the opportunity to fly at low throttle settings for more relaxed flight. A GNB 3 cell high voltage 380mAH pack rounds out this rocket with perfect C.G. and virtually no impact to total weight.

Why would you need a buck converter if the esc has a BEC that puts out 5v? The reciever can only handle 5v same with the servos 6v max. Why is it not running off of the esc bec? That makes no sense?

The BEC on my cheap 12 amp ESC only provides .5 amps at 5 volts which is not enough to run the XKA280 reliably. The stock ESC on the XK does not have ANY BEC circuit. The red wire from the stock ESC is a direct connection to the battery positive lead. With the designed 2S battery, that provides 8.4 to 7.? volts to the receiver as the battery drains. The LED lights alone on this plane draw over 300 mA when on (not trivial in my opinion). Add servos and receiver current drains then any BEC circuit for this plane would need to provide over 500 mA and at least 7.2 volts and optimally 8.4 volts. Guess what? That little buck converter fits the bill perfectly. Make sense now?

Somebody commented about the led lights, I checked it and they draw about 350 mA, so not insignificant. I counted 39 led lights in total so 350/39 is a bit less than 10 mA each, so sounds right. Motor draw is significantly more, but with the lights out, should go farther, and you can turn them off.

Fair enough. However I’ve never seen an RC at this size with retracts. I think one of the smallest ones I’ve ever owned was the amazing Tower Hobbies P-51!! And that was like five or more years ago, pre crazy inflation. It was $120 or so and if you wanted retracts maybe an extra $30 I think. Anyways, at this price and size, I’m not complaining! 😁👍😅💯⚓️

I used a kensun satellite to bind to my NX 8 this week. It appears that I get manual and "safe" on the normal channel. Rates appear ok too, yet to fly.

Yes, the include receiver has an sbus port for futaba and dsm for spektrum. Plug in and bind. I verified I have safe mode, asx3 mode and manual mode on a 3 way switch. In manual, the rates are really low. I have not figured out a way to turn the lights off, they are on solid.

@@tygerman42 I was able to change the lights with EdgeTx. They are on channel 9 and I use a momentary switch with a value of 100 to switch between the 3 options (on, blink, off)

the senior button on that tx turns off stabilization entirely but SEVERELY limits the rates. i had one of these for a while

@@JLJets yes it is pretty durable and you can repair it a lot more than youd expect. Hell ive broken mine into pieces 4-5 times before i retired it and reused the electronics

This model has been out for years? Good for it! I had no idea! We honestly thought it was a new RC, which is all the more impressive. Hey Nate! 2:25, don't you mean the Beech Staggerwing? The red one, right? Not the UMX Waco.. WOW, sounds like it got pretty windy for such a small plane, but it seemed to handle it with not too much of a struggle.. 4:10 or so...setttle down now with the lights...lol Personally, for me, I'm thinking some of those lights look a little 'kiddy toy-ish' Would rather have the flight time than drive all those lights you can't really see in the daylight anyway. What happened with "WILL...IT...SNAP!?" Did it really fail like that, and not offer up a nice lil snap? Looks good in the air for sure. Steerable tail wheel pretty cool too. Yeah, Corsair next would be pretty cool. Looks cool!

You can use Sbus Futaba or a Spektrum satellite Receiver. They plug right in and you can then use the Multiprotocol. Blowy Fly RC has a video called "How to Bind XK A220 P40 to RadioMaster Multiprotocol. micro receiver Wltoys RC plane" It is the same Protocol as the XK 280 P51 Mustang. I hope that helps you.

I really should have mentioned in this video, the lights can be unplugged very easily if there are some that you aren't a fan of. Honestly, at this price point, the more the merrier!! Especially knowing you can simply unplug them if you don't like them ;-) Happy Flying!!

Darn. Im putting wireless lights on my 750mm mustang, but the lights are $20 EACH rather than $20 set like it freaking advertises. So i need to spend $60 more to get full lights, but...its cool...its cool. It has a spare channel. Would you vote retracts or flaps?

@CrstnJdiKnight yeah, I plan to do that at some point, but I need to buy a 6-channel receiver that pairs with my transmitter. If it was balsa with hollow (cantilever) wings, I could add a servo to drop the external fuel tanks. But the flaps are a bit of a problem, because the ailerons have torsion bars that go along the whole wing, I don't know if I can fit another one for flaps, or if I have to change the aileron drive.

It could be a solid first airplane, yes. That does not mean that it’s the best first airplane, but there are far worse choices out there. As long as you have a basic concept of aviation and what the controls do, you’ll be just fine in stabilized mode 👍💯 Plus, price is always a big factor for most, and for the price it would be hard to find anything MUCH better. Good question! I hope not! Banggood has been known to do that in the past, but we sort of yell at them when they try to do that. lol. They used to up the price when their stock or inventory got low. Not cool. Lately they seem to honor their prices much longer. I think they realized how uncool that was and have learned from it. 😅⚓️
