My very first driving job was NorthAmerican in 1993. Three and a half weeks of their school to learn how to be a driver and a mover, then rolled out as a lease operator in a ‘90 Freightliner flat top cabover with a freshly refurbished 48 ft flat floor van with all new moving equipment. Baptism by fire as a complete rookie, but did a lot of heavily discounted loads over the summer before leaving after 6 months. Was a great experience, have moved myself and many others in the 30 years since.

You had me at 90 Flat Top Cabovers, I'm a sucker for those Cabover looks. I know the hood trucks offer so much more than c/o, but that iconic look!!!

I remember going by their big operations center west of Fort Wayne and it was a huge deal. I had a freind that had his KW towed to their truck service center and had them put in a brand new crate engine(350 Cummins) and they had it completely installed in 1 day and that included removing old trans and engine ,changing over all the accessorys, including the bell housing and he didnt even work for NA , Bill

I was a lumper riding with a owner operator with Armstrong United during the early 2000’s and it was tuff and fun at the same time. I made some decent money running the road and got my first experience driving a semi. The truck had a super10 transmission.

Welcome back, Trucker AK. I love that trailer, those floors are so awesome! I have a friend that did moving for years and made good money, and enjoyed it. It is nice to see you smile again. You're doing what you love (owner/operator) self-employed and doing it your way. Keep smiling, keep reaching for the stars. Now, you need to post more often and share this new experiences with all of us. Start each day thinking: "today, is a good day, to have a good day"

Not a youtuber. But 90% of my driving career has been doing this up here in Canada. I'm a O/o with my own tractor, trailer and authority. I've pulled for north American, atlas, united, and a bunch of other mid to large moving companies. It's great money and experiences..but has always been a hustle needed to make it. But thankfully 99% of the drivers out there turn their nose and head to household as they deem it too much work. So I've been blessed to always find work fairly easily. And owning my tru k and trailer I've done other loads outside of household when it's been quiet.

I know some of how bed buggers are payed but would honestly be interested in a video going through the nuts and bolts, and then giving examples of what say a month looked like. weeks are , from my understanding, a bit of a small sample size and dont really convey it well. I work in entertainment, but pre DEF motors arent really allowed in what I do. Ive thought about buying an old classic with the 84" bunk and restoring/redoing it, but wouldn't be able to keep working in what I do now with that sort of truck.

Learned the business from a man that has well over 45yrs experience between Bekins & Mayflower and one thing that i will say is that NO ONE becomes a top shelf upper Echelon van operator overnight it takes yrs of observation practice & repetition to achieve that if money is the only motivating factor then you've already sabotaged yourself
@billtodd65098 ай бұрын
Instead of gym equipment, bedbug haulers run up and down stairs with a refrigerator on their back using a strap assist while filling out a clipboard full of inventory,(1 hour morning and evening). Seriously, you wont see a furniture hauler walking around all dirty and obese wearing flourissant flip flops. My uncle hauled for allied for over 30 years(worked his way up to high value security loads only), was gone all the time, but didnt mind it because his wife teamed with him. Just keep an open mind and remember, you will miss a lot of loads to and from Cali because of your trucks age. Adios, Bill
