Homay! Great to see you- I was looking for a Colossus video without a certain person who just rubs me the wrong way.. a spitfire composer with 1/10th your skill but with a MASSIVE “oh i am such a special genius that I can just leave my hair greasy because im so busy with DEEP THOUGHTS”-self presentation which nauseates me immediately. You are an actual gifted composer (what he pretends at) but absolutely humble and comfortable to listen to. Thank you for your music and your videos too!

The ComposerCloud+ with EastWest has like 42,000 instruments for like $10/month. INCLUDING: “Ra” and “Silk” libraries of ethnic instruments especially middle eastern. These have many Ney - various types and articulations, oud, cimbalom, duduks erhu, bansuri, kemenche, dilruba and many many more. Also Vocal instruments and phrases in Persian, etc And-first month is free! I love it. That includes the Hollywood Strings Diamond Edition (like $800 to purchase) and choirs including the new Elven choirs and fantasy orchestras Another great option is Albion Solstice “folk noir” is a very eclectic Albion. From hurdy gurdy to bells and pipes and electric guitars- plus string ensembles with unique articulations found only here. It’s an amazing idea prompt and I’ve done more pieces using only this than any other -even BBCSO pro. It’s better than you think. It’s better than an Albion it’s really a FULL “folk noir” toolkit with two string ensembles with special artics and a choir with mesmerizing articulations and a humming which I’ve used as a backing chord saturation with total realism feel many many times. I would check it out!!

love the depth of round robins, i think you should offer traditional mic mixing as well though cause this limits flexible, what if i wanted a very roomy sound with just a bit of close? Having it on a slider is definitely great for certain cases though, but i think having both options would be best

@@Xaverai Then you have extra tracks you have to deal with. The point is a workaround shouldn't have been needed. My standard mic mix in the Albions, SSO, Appassionata, and every Spitfire library that has them, is the outriggers @ 0 dB and the close mics @ -6 dB. This is no longer possible with Colossus, which is a shame.

Bit too 'crunchy' for my personal taste. Does not sound like many dynamic layers. To my ears, it seems the 'loud' dynamics are achieved by adding saturation/distortion, maybe? But this makes the instruments sound synthy. No cuivre in the brass, it seems. Also, would have been nice to hear the whole dynamic transition, from pp to ff. I quite like the staccatos and the woods layering. Something sounds 'off' with the flutes legato patch.

I bought it and loved. HOWEVER, I found something that bothers me and I wish you can add an option there sometimes. And it is: While in Albion One's spicatto you had access the whole range of dinamics just with your fingers (let's call them pp to ff), and "dynamics" controller had no effect, here (in short notes) with dynamics set to 0%, you only have control of pp-mf layers, with dynamics set to 50%, you have control of mp-f layers, with 100%, you have control of f-ff layers. I just wish I could control the entire dynamic range just with my fingers (like on an acoustic piano), or at least add an option to switch to "full dynamic range" mode. I wish this could reach to Spitfire. Take it as a constructive critic to improve the already excelent product.

I can appreciate the comment by @Nyanko. The comment by @FenicsSX made me take a closer look at the Low Strings memory usage on how much RAM - Low strings at 24GB? In the settings of the Spitfire plugin - the default size starts at 12288. My usual triple number of that has seemed to work with the other libraries at 36897. I loaded 7 tracks of Colossus with first track on the low strings - and they all seemed to reach about 8.3GB each. I reset the number to be 9x that base number - 110691 the tracks are still loading, they are over 30GB each and computer memory has nearly run out and is behaving like it is going to crash . I stepped away from computer for 15 minutes and came back - the tracks settled at 37GB each and the memory usage dropped down to 45%. maybe loading samples from disk was causing the computer to hitting 97 to 98% and causing issues on the computer performance - not sure I was going to complete my comment. On my computer I have a 16TB disk - not an SSD - which is an issue on my system as it can take a long time to load a template. It makes me think my next music computer will need multiple fast SSD drives and 128GB of RAM which means some serious cash. The library is interesting to play with - but I am going to need to watch how I use it in pieces - until I can buy the Colossus computers to with the library. EDIT COMMENTS: - @BrandonHawley corrected me - that the Spitfire Plugin show the total amount used across all instances. Doing a single track on the default sound loaded 12.9GB - and then Low Strings as a single track loaded 6..08GB. EDIT TWO: I was mistaken - my system had 32GB - and when I hit issues with loading 22 Tracks of BBSO - i had to upgrade to 64GB and now when loading the default Anthology voice selection after it loads its 12.9GB my memory is only at 47%. So on a technical level these libraries need a beefy amount of memory to get the full value of the samples. The Colossus Library sounds do give you a good amount of dynamic range using just the mod wheel. The two new sliders Scale and Depth, have a drop down setting under them. On loading an instance of Colossus - the Scale is set to be Linked to the Dynamic range - and moves with the mod wheel. It can be "unlinked" or use Dynamics, or Expression. Both sliders have these options and the default setting for the Depth slider is "unlinked". From a UI perspective that is well done and gives flexibility to how you use it. The quality of the sounds do not disappoint - you can find the very subtle to the bombastic in here - the idea of putting two orchestras into the plugin and going between them is a very interesting twist and can certainly find its way into pieces.

Went with an Intel processor i7 8 cores - had to buy a lowend graphics card $89 as the pandemic made those hard to get. I bought a 2TB C drive and 16TB Ddrive -had 27" 1980x1280 monitor - needed to upgrade my sound card to Motu ultralite-mk5 as the old one would not work with the new hardware - and it was approaching a decade of use. This looks like an exceptional product!!! One of of my observations, so far, for anyone who doesn't have a high-end computer system, is that the short basses, for example, consume 25.4 GB of RAM. Wow…is this something that everybody has, now??? If you do, enjoy!!! If you don't, be cautious to investigate your system specs before purchase. It wasn't long ago that virtual instruments only required a few Megabytes…I love the advancement of technology (a.k.a. a fancy way to simply say 'tools') but you have to factor in the expense that this may entail. Wonderful advancements, but buyer should beware of their system specs beforehand, methinks! ;o)

I have found the Spitfire plugins default to 12288 for the ram setting - and that notes drop out while trying to play something - so I triple that to 36897 to help. Your comment made me look at Homay's screen for the low strings and she has loaded 24GB for one track. I have 64GB of ram currently - and now I am not sure 128 would be enough. I am not sure I can afford a multiple computer setup to run all these. I need to run it on one. It will take a Colossus machine to run Colossus.

Colossus sounds really great, but....why spitfire audio doesn´t develop and improve existing older libraries. For example, Albion one GUI in KONTAKT could be scalable in size. Or spitfire could improve the envelope control in older libraries. There are so many possibilities to maintanance older products. Older libraries are still great, but in my opinion spitfire should think about this.

So basically strings and brass with a saturator and low end EQ. No thanks, I have plenty of other “epic” string libraries that I can put those effects on manually. 4. Nothing new is brought to the table here. Just a different marketing angle with a lot of bass added to stuff. We already have heavyocity for that. 5. Everything sounds very muffled. Is it just me?

When can we have Albion Iceni back? This feels like a strange choice of sounds, I agree with others that although impressive this library is quite disappointing. It feels like a refresh of already existing content from other products and not that useful. What we need is a library like Iceni, for computer games, more unique instruments, not commercial sounds that others such as native instruments do very well. One of the reasons I always loved spitfire audio was because you focused on creating new and exciting sounds, things we composers can't find anywhere else...

And I will use colossus mainly for them and their pads. Am I crazy? I’m just confused because Spitfire is THEE company for orchestral instruments and film scoring. I just impulsively bought Colossus cause I need a library for big epic sounds. Man how did they fall so flat here?! However I bought Abby Road ONE and couldn’t be happier. I have a feeling that they must get a lot of complaints with Colossus purchasers. I hope they add to the library asap
