Why D&D? Why Is Dungeons And Dragons So Popular? kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIm8lalnotWtlbM

Came from DMR on Facebook. Tossed a like and sub your way, and now finally a comment. Gotta placate the algorithm, y'know? I've been playing a decade myself, and I got gatekeep'd a few times but I stuck it out. Made a ton of friends, and had a blast along the way. Glad I never gave up on it. Cheers.

Thank you so much!!! It really means a lot and I appreciate it! I'm sorry you had to go through this but I'm glad you stuck around and are now having fun with it!

Well said! I've been playing since 1st edition, and I started running games as a teen with 2nd edition. And let me say, I am so happy that that the community has grown and D&D continues to evolve. I love the fact that KZbin and other platforms have provided a way for so many different people to express their own personal views about the game, how they play, and even stream their games online. I've learned so much from seeing others play this amazing game, and I've grown so much from getting insights from channels like yours.

Thank you! That is so true, we keep watching new people all the time just to expand our knowledge and ideas and it's been an awesome journey! It wouldn't have been possible without all these people sharing different concepts and live games. I wish KZbin made it a bit easier to find new channels but oh well... I've briefly checked your channel and it looks like you have so much good content in there! Will dive more into it for sure!!!

@@MyrtosArtCorner Thanks so much! If I could go back in time and tell my younger self that all of this was happening right now, and that people were able to connect and play D&D online - I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have believed it. 😊

I am so glad that I found you and your channel. D&D has already changed my life and I am not even playing yet! It is, in fact, the story telling that draws me to the game. The battles are exciting and fun, but the story telling is what makes it come alive. It is pure magic and pure joy. Thank you for introducing me to D&D. Without you, I would never have known the adventures that await

I'm so glad you found it and I'm sure you'll love it even more when you start playing!!! I totally agree about the storytelling, I'm here for that too, the battles are just a pleasant break from it! Can't wait to meet your first character!!!!! 🤗🤗🤗

I've been playing D&D for decades. I feel like I'm in the minority of older players that is excited that more people are picking up a hobby that I love. I detest gatekeeping in all it's forms, including the "right way to play" crowd. The beauty of D&D is that you can adjust it for any style of play. If you find yourself in a game you don't enjoy, there's another one that you probably will. The current era is the best era so far.
@MyrtosArtCorner2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that and I agree! It's the best era so far and hopefully it'll get even better as more people join the community! It's important to speak up, as I said in the video, so thank you for this comment too!

For me, agree to all you said @Myrto, and to add to it with my personal take, D&D has probably saved me during this pandemie... exactly BECAUSE it is a game that can be adapated to anything, in any ways, including being played fully remote with friends, strangers and for a moment, a very previous moment, create this bubble that propels your mind in this safe place (not in term of in-game threats of course... but social/mental safety haha :)). #KeepOnRolling

More Content Means More different viewpoints. And more ways of expressing the Same viewpoint. I had to occasionally tell players they are saying the same thing but in a different way. I been told I wasn’t inclusive because I wanted only allow PCs from the Player’s Handbook only for the first campaign. I been told I wasn’t nice and was doing bad wrong fun because I wasn’t using all the books from 2E and in the recent pass years not using all the official books from WOTC. I have settled and got comfortable being a Forgotten Realms Adventure League DM. And told people if they wanted run Eberron, they would have to buy the book for me and get a group together.

I play RPG's for 41 years now...most of it D&D (in all its various editions). Just like you I am more of the storytelling/storycreating and less of the game-rules ( I even played it without rolling dice). Game-systems should be a tool to play the game...but the goal is to tell and create a story of player-characters becoming heroes (or something completely different). Rule-books are a nice aid for combat or challenges...but no more than a guide.
@MyrtosArtCorner2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely true! And as much as I enjoy this playstyle, I still would never say that it's wrong to focus on the rules or combat if that's what the group enjoys! But pushing it on others in an elitist way really is a problem and can potentially make beginner players feel bad or even worse, give up. Thank you for watching and thank you for sharing the other side of this community ❤️

A Very wise man once said.. This is all just a fabricated problem for the sake of having a problem. D&D has ALWAYS been: 1) inclusive of any type of player imaginable, 2) extremely flexible in how it is played, and 3) varied WIDELY and wildly from group to group. D&D is not unique in how various players develop preferences and seek out others who wish to play that way, meaning if you want to play differently then find a different group. I've also never found two groups who played Poker the exact same way. That's a universal feature of human interaction. Always has been, always will be. If someone new wants to play D&D a new way, that opportunity already existed--it's baked into the game. Find some like-minded players and have at it. Absolutely no one can stop you. So this isn't about old timers telling noobs how to play, it's about noobs trying to tell old timers how THEY must play. And if you don't submit, you're "toxic." That word's a dead giveaway that some noob is trying to take over. D&D is and always has been the most versatile and inclusive game ever invented. You can play any way you wish. The only "problem" is when you try to force YOUR ideas onto someone else's table. If folks stop doing that and there won't be any more 'problems.'

Your inclusion of the term "noob" as a derogatory word speaks volumes also. I've been playing since the early 80s and I've seen the toxicity from older groups and have separated myself from a few of them because of it. Talking crap about people wanting to include LGBTQ characters, both PC and NPC...not allowing handicapped players to play handicapped characters the way they wish including talking crap about handicapped accessable dungeons. I've seen some hard gatekeeping. Don't sit there and say it isn't an issue. It is. Being inclusive doesn't mean you are welcome to play your game however you wish or you can play in my game with no input from you whatsoever. Inclusivity let's me play in your game how I want by your rules. You are one of the players she is talking about. Go hide in the shadows and play with your exclusive group, shunning others and how they want to play... Alternately, host a truly inclusive game and see how it goes... 🤷🏼♂️

Unfortunately, this elitism is a result of toxicity. In my experience, the toxicity is much more prominent in Greek communities where being a chad and rping like a murder-hobo seem to be valued as heroic feats. These behaviors also drive female players away. That's why it's important to implement a social contract and discourage such behaviors. They give dnd a bad name. I loved DnD passionately but gave it up because of bad experiences in groups and campaigns. I also had good experiences but the bad outweighed the good.
@MyrtosArtCorner2 жыл бұрын
To be fair I don't have any personal experience with non Greek groups of D&D to make a fair comparison but I definitely know what you mean! It makes me sad to hear that you gave up, I hope you'll find a good group to come back at some point ❤️ Finding a good group is usually the greatest challenge of all but I wish it'll happen for you! Until then, we can only speak up and hopefully improve the community just a bit every day.
