Manor Lords is the most highly anticipated city-builder in years, and today we're going to tackle the most challenging scenario available! The "On the Edge" challenge is absolutely brutal, forcing you to adapt to an early winter, appease extremely demanding serfs, and survive ruthless raider attacks... all within the first year of the game, with no starting weapons for defense. This scenario will push you to your limits, but never fear! I've developed a strategy that can give you a fighting chance at survival!

I don't know if you fully realize the gift you have, Pravus. You're the only youtuber whose playthroughs of these city-builder and paradox games I enjoy watching and can do so without fear of cringing or screaming at my monitor. Well done, sir, and please keep up the good work!

Same. Sometimes he makes mistakes or bad assumptions, but even those more often than not feel like understandable human error as opposed to negligence.

This is so tru. He has a gift of "playing" the game but explaining it really well. Even when he says I'm learning also so this might not be all true.!!

I believe the "Brotherhood of the Forest" with their "extremely thight hosen" is a reference to the movie "Robin Hood: Men in Thights".

Concidering that the only two drinks you have in the game are water and ale, it makes sense that people are pouring down ale like water.

The town outline updating on the world map is a wonderful touch! The point of any city builder is to be able to see what you have wrought, and it does that seamlessly! For the Editor! For the Heir! For Pravus!

Historically it makes sense you can't support a huge town on hunting and berries and would need trade or farming (or the bartering if it gets improved).

Yeah, was thinking the same. The whole hunter-gatherer lifestyle vs farming community. And many villages feeding a few town and a city or two, because you do need to go hard on farming to sustain a large population.

Hello Pravus! Ale is challenging , but its possibly to keep a 75 population supplied with it with one brewery. If that brewery is on a double house, it will supply 100 pop. I noticed you have one brewery family with a market stall. That's a problem. Are you storing ale outside the Brewery? Stop that if you are. Place the Brewery, malthouse and granary adjacent to eachother. Store barley in the granary, but not malt. The process will be thus: Granary workers take barley 10 at a time from the farmhouse. The malt house workers remove one barley at a time to make malt. The Brewery family will remove 1 malt at a time to make ale, then the tavern families will move the beer to the tavern. Apiary doesn't work in the winter btw. Only spring/summer.

Hey Pravus! Stoked to see you doing this game, I've enjoyed my time playing it, I'm only watching your On the Edge play through right now. Talking about the hunting and animal location, I searched the comments and didn't see anyone mention, but since moving the hunting tents is free, you can place your hunting so that they will migrate, and then demolish. Repeat until you like the animal location - yes it's cheesy but is an option. Cheers!

I was playing yesterday and it seemed like the dev introduced the market saturation mechanic likely to balance the trade situation. Please do the true max difficulty run, with this change it's sure to be awesome

I gotta disagree, no idea if the devs will read this, but who knows. While I do agree the current format of farming vs. trade is imbalanced, the need to go *super heavy* into farming, including building up subsidiary manors in other territories is *totally historically accurate* for how shitty, poor and generally hand to mouth subsistence farming was, it wasn’t at all like today, people trade the small surplus they had, with the artisanal middle class being highly valued trade people (which is why they’re locked in once you effectively promote a family) rather than the somewhat commonplace thing that exists today. You should be forced to look at the relative fertility of regions and forced to make hard choices about turning an entire area to the plow, then - if possible - supporting them with select imports from your other manors, in order to support the ‘winning’ high population verging on a town manorial estate that currently exists. I do think the tools to *teach* you this could be much clearer, and I think there’s room for more at the middle and top end to help you grow in fashions seen across the world, rather than the default Middle Ages farming approach - but that should absolutely be the easiest method - 2-3 ‘farming’ estates supporting 1 artisanal/trading estate. And you absolutely should have to fight tooth and nail over even as little as acres of land. There’s a reason feudal society sucked and stagnated our worldwide economic growth. I also disagree - but agree that the UI needs changing - with the ability to ‘make’ artisanal burgage plots change output. People didn’t do that historically. Hence why you had coopers, joiners, bowyers, carpenters (which was not nearly as broad as today) and a dozen more woodworking ‘artisan’ specialists which were elite guilds, often taught family, to family or bought into at excessive (exclusive) cost, just in the area of woodworking. You should absolutely be able to *force* them to change by paying them a lot of money, but as far as ‘natural’ growth goes, you should be stuck with them making one product which you can stop them making more easily, as needs be.

I have the game and i'm loving it so far but before I sink a good amount of hours into it i'm going wait until it has more to it. Like you said it's a passion project but i'm patient and eager to see the future of it

Does anyone know if the developer has plans for butchering livestock for meat? As far as I've seen you're only got hunting for meat, with both hunting and goats for hides, but if your population can exceed the deer population as a food supply, it would be nice if there was a livestock option you could switch to once hunting becomes potentially unsustainable. Unless you only make a small hunting outpost with the tech tree and policies to maximize meat production. Interesting that the different regions aren't treated like simply extensions of your starting city; each region is sort of functionally independent, and so nothing is given for free. The barter system is interesting as it gives you another reason to potentially overproduce in one area to use as an internal trade good. Also, I believe the reason why your mule seems to be taking "the long way around" is I believe horses and mules prioritize using roads whereas those on foot will travel anywhere.
