Nicaragua was a Spanish colony so they speak the same language and can integrate with no problems. Unlike others that have gone there.

Usually the success of a documentary depends on how detached the maker is from the situation he describes. Because it should have a therapeutic quality, by balancing identification and compassion. Here all is more intimate and the need for therapy is primary.

The quality of the camerawork and editing is first rate, but I am confused, you have a young family and a partner adapting to this new country... why are you walking around winding up the locals and basically trying to catch people out with accusations of racism? I don't think this is the best way to integrate yourself into the community! You're not just asking questions, you're giving side eye to the camera and mocking a community that is doing it's best to welcome you. That's how it looks from here anyway, I'll keep watching and see if I'm missing the point!

Lee a Malcolm X.

The guy saying that joking about skin color is considered racist in Holland is just pathetic. It is one more product of the puritanism of those northern societies, secular puritanism associated with political correctness. What is regrettable is the structural racism of Dutch society. On the other hand, black means black. There is nothing more regrettable than the paternalism involved in calling someone "people of color." But the guy had to make the condescending comment that "that's a racist joke in Holland." Pathetic. I have spent years of my life in Africa and the African guys have joked a thousand times about the color of my skin. I never thought I was being a victim of some form of racism. On the other hand, it's funny that a guy from a country undermined by a mangy, exclusionary, cave-dwelling Far Right goes looking outside for examples of racism.

Sometimes racism shouldn't be taken too seriously because it can still bring a good laugh. I liked that racist jokes. I remember calling my Chinese descendant friend a "fake Chinese" just because he don't eat pork and don't understand mandarin lol. But make sure to say these kind of sensitive dark-jokes stuff only to your very best friend or else one will be offended.
