well you have to remember that there are a lot of planets other than earth, and say a lot its an understatment, the sample size of our galaxy is already huge, basicly what i'm saying is that the likeliness of not happening are actually lower, judging by the number of planets that exist
@richardfila7 жыл бұрын
But then you have to account for all the hugely specific life sustaining conditions required on the planet which rules out most of them. It’s a big leap of faith still!

i mean the usual saying they use its "there are more planets in the milkyway than grains of sand earth" for a reason, the point its not realy that if it could of happen (the chances sure are low, but not as low as fliping a coin and get it to land on its side) but if it lasted long enough to actually matter, it could explain why we haven't spoted others sings of life other than ourselfs yet

While the idea of a wet-dry cycle is interesting, I still find Nick Lane's arguments for alkaline hydrothermal vents much more convincing. His point, in The Vital Question, about the necessity of a flux such that proton disequilibrium can be maintained and proto-cells can generate ATP by taking advantage of that disequilibrium was very solid. The "warm little ponds" theory doesn't address the issues he raises with a static environment (i.e. lacking the constant flux of a vent).

How does loose & dry RNA chains actually start life though? Obviously particles can concentrate in ponds, but I find it hard to believe that one day a rock will meet a special compound & start life like lychen. It's just impossible to get your head around why non-living substances can be prompted to start life by mixing and drying. It doesn't speak to reason, why the substances would ever be able to decide that it needed to grow a flagella or whatever to switch ponds. Then, also, how does the first organism reproduce? It must be anaerobic first then chaos ensues bringing in oxidation?
@Letrus1007 жыл бұрын
More than likely the first "life" was an RNA strand that happened to be able to make chemical copies of itself increasing the entropy of the overall system faster. And it wouldn't decide to grow a flagella, the one's that copied themselves the best were the one's that stuck around and continued to exist. It makes more sense when you think of it that way. This was just a mathematical model, I'm sure in the future there will be more studies that will prove abiogenesis.

So in other words, we have *even more evidence* that abiogenesis was the actual start of life on Earth? Awesome! :) I always get annoyed when people think life is something special and separate from chemistry, so they claim it couldn't have started from something non-living. I usually point them to the Miller-Urey experiment and its more recent updates, but now I can point them to this, too :)

People with Type 2 diabetes are ALREADY producing too much insulin. A lot of people approach the problem backwards; the issue is an unbalanced system, not a lack of insulin, at least unless the pancreatic beta cells have already completely failed (such as in late stage type 2 diabetes, or in type 1)

Please read the Obesity Code by Jason Fung! We are going about curing type 2 diabetes all wrong! It’s not about them not having enough insulin, it’s about insulin resistance that comes about from HAVING TOO MUCH INSULIN!! When we give them more it makes it worse over time. We build insulin resistance when we eat too much/too often/too much sugary and or processed foods. To undo the resistance, do the opposite. Please please look into this he is a doctor who has been studying this for decades and has helped so many people

Nick Lane's book, The Vital Question, gives a far more ubiquitous hypothesis for the origin of life based exclusively on proven lab studies and biochemistry. His lab has essentially reproduced a nearly identical replica of the ancient alkaline hydrothermal vents found near the mid-Atlantic ridge in their lab, and within its matrix found that organic polymers concentrate inside cell-like structures with a fair amount of reproducibility. The alkaline water inside the vent passes an electric charge through the organic molecules to the acidic water (characteristic of early Earth), stimulating the polymerization of macromolecules. All of this has been shown in lab, and has far more supporting evidence than dried pools creating reproducing cells. Sorry SciShow! Source: Nick Lane, The Vital Question, ISBN: 978-1781250372 Pubmed Article: An Origin-of-Life Reactor to Simulate Alkaline Hydrothermal Vents, doi: 10.1007/s00239-014-9658-4
