There's a new name written down in glory in my university at around 10:30pm tonight, praise the Lord!

Whenever I hear old hymns, it reminds me how happy our family is when I was younger. Together, we used to go in church every Sundays and stays the whole day serving the Lord, singing Baptist songs. But now I am older, we parted ways, we had different beliefs and I still chose to be a Baptist and loving hymnal songs. - From Philippines

@@brucebylerschannel You are spot on. I am Methodist and I don’t even recognize the order of service anymore. I spend at least one Sunday in each month attending a Southern Baptist Church just to sing hymns. My late mother probably knew every hymn in the hymnal. We grew up and was nurtured on hymns. I’m so thankful that I can listen to hymns whenever I want to. Pray for our country and world.🙏🏾🙏🏾

Love these beautiful old songs with gorgeous tunes and deep theology! I wish we sang these kinds of songs at First Baptist Church in Waco. We have a wonderful new song leader, but he's steeped in the "praise" tradition when we sing songs that have no tune and the same simplistic words are sung over and over to distraction. They don't resolve at the end, either, just kind of tail off. This stuff is 50 years old, begun in the late 60's when the idea derived that someone who was 18 in 1969 couldn't relate to any kind of cultural expression that existed before January 1, 1968. Everything had to be dumbed down, the guitars and drums brought in, jazz and rock masses, or else the young people would leave the churches. Guess what, they began leaving the churches anyway over the next decade and found all the heresies of the 70's waiting for them--New Age, est, rolfing, Esalen Institute, Scientology. Is it any wonder all this was accompanied by the entrenched drug culture that exists to this day along with the opioid crisis?

VictrolaJazz sorry to hear that. It’s sad that even a lot of Baptist Churches are abandoning the old hymns and bringing in the contemporary trash.

@@danielbaptist1611 One of my favorite songs for decades has been "A Child of the King", composed in the 1860's. When we would get an updated hymnal, I'd check first to be sure it was in there, even if we hardly ever sang it. It was on page 555 in the last one. The last hymnal doesn't have it at all now.

@@danielbaptist1611 I don't think all of the contemporary is trash. There's some of it that I really like. There's a lot of it I don't care for, on the other hand. Some, like "How Deep the Father's Love For Us" can be sung in an acceptable style and not with a rock band. A lot of it is exactly that you called it - trash, and it's being used to try to reach the millennials. But it's not reaching them. I was in a church until about 2 and 1/2 years ago and after seniors graduated from high school, half wouldn't come back, and went to other churches. Another thing is churches don't give an invitation anymore, and a lot of that is calvinism and reformed theology infiltrating the church. You don't hear much anymore "Are you sure without a doubt that if you died today, you'd go to heaven?". Very sad! Reach the younger generation the same way you reached previous generations, with the same Bible and same gospel message. I couldn't stand the music minister at my old church, who was there 2012 to 2017. I was HAPPY when he resigned. Having said that, I can't go along with ALL ccm is trash because even these old hymns, at one point in time, were contemporary.
@dougwilliams54743 жыл бұрын
Some of the new ones are just as much as the oldies. I’m thinking of In Christ Alone, How Deep The Father’s Love For Us, By Faith. A lot of other new ones. But if it’s a brush arbor night, these old hymns of the Evangelical Church need top priority. And I’m betting my bottom dollar that many of you all don’t even need the hymnal.

Not a welcoming church at all! I was a visitor there about 3 times before they mailed me a letter saying that I needed to find a church somewhere else. The Lord will deal with them accordingly but the pastor needs to get his heart right because there's no room for hate in Heaven. He should already know this. I'm glad it all happened though or I would have never found the God fearing Bible believing Baptist Church that I'm a member of.
