To be honest, seeing that the card uses an ESP32, they could probably very easily implement a small webserver to connect to using your phone and pick from that which game you want to play or in what order the games will appear. EDIT: The esp32 only needs a tiny antenna and some even tinnier passive parts(capacitors), the PCB looks like it has enough space to fit those. No you dont need an app to connect to it, just your browser on your phone. Also sending games with wifi is gonna take years cause the ESP32 is not fast enough for that.

Because of this flash card we know each NSW game has a unique identifier. If Nintendo wanted to they could let you copy card games to your Switch without need of ever reinserting the cart because they would have the ID. If you sold the game (which is why console manufacturers don't want to do this lets be real) and somebody inserted it into their system it would ping the servers and lock you out of the copy. They could do this and it wouldn't be a security risk or lose them money. But they won't do it because it would have zero financial benefit for them.

It looks like files are listed in the order that you copy them, sometimes due to this it ends being a mess if you copy multiple ones at the same time. EZ Flash Jr has exactly the same problem, what I do it's use an old software called Drivesort and force them to list in Alphabetical order, save it and done. IDK if this will work but you should give a try and see if you can!

This is interesting, but with a triple digit physical Switch game collection, even that button solution would be rough. As you've already discussed, my concern aside from the obvious used market issue, is whether or not Nintendo will decide to have backward compatibility on the next console. That would introduce a significant security hole on day 1, and Nintendo doesn't want that.

Here's hoping me preordering the dumper combo from one of the slower stores nets me one of the v2s or at least they give the option to solder on your own switch from the looks of it and gain the functionality. That on its own would be good enough for me. I'm in the same camp, I run an unmodded switch (though I kinda want to pick up an easier to mod one too the more I see) so this is literally just a game switcher and run on emulation via dumper device and I'm super glad to see it.

They're through-holes where the switch mounts. You could manage to DIY something more useful than this method for suresies. My main two first thoughts would be: Remove switch, solder on a ribbon cable of some nature (they're through holes so it won't be that hard) and let it lead to an external button on the console itself. Maybe run it through the backplate so it's hidden even, and then leave yourself enough slack to mount the button under the kickstand but still to remove the MIG and change cards. It'd make the MIG "permanent" but the SD card could still be changed. Alternatively, 3D print a MUCH taller button, nearly comically so, then remove a TINY square from the cartridge cover. Let the switch protrude through the cartridge cover on the console so it can be pressed both without ejecting or even opening the system.

It's not redundant if you have a modded switch because of having more memory. Now people can have almost 3tb of memory on their Switch with two 1.5tb micro sd cards. Using a multi port game switcher with remote was a great way to switch games on the V1 Migswitch but now thats not an option. Hopefully V3 will have a remote.

Nope. These are just emulating the carts. They haven't done anything about the encryption involved. So unless a compromised certificate surfaces, there is no way to run homebrew code.

20/06/2024: Clarification on button use on V2 card. With the feedback we received from the first Mig Card V2 users, we realize we had to clarify something about the game switching button. We use purposely a thin button because, as you can see in the video below, it is meant to also be used with the game card slot cover closed. We think it is more convenient and since you don't really need to open it once your games are on the Mig microSD, it is just cleaner and looks better. Of course, you can also use it with the game card slot cover opened.

You could totally hard mod that little cartridge lid and add a little piece of plastic to let you press the button easily with the cover on. It might make it easy to accidentally bump but it would also make it easy to switch for those with many games. Maybe they can make a firmware update to always load in alphabetical order, or let the user define the order, and then let you press it a few times before it loads the ROM so you can kinda just remember your place and not have to wait a second every time you change game selection. IDK, design is getting better for sure. Whoever made this has a death wish!

It does say on their website the order the games are is based on the order they were added to your SD card. If you want your games listed in alphabetical order, you have to add them as such, e.g. making sure games are being transferred one by one in the order you want, to your SD card.

I only bought the Mig Dumper which I received about a week ago now. It has been great to back up all of my switch games. I am a collector as well so I will never sell my games and if I get the Mig Cart I would not play a pirated game from online for fear of getting my console/account banned. One thing you didn't mention that makes the games easier to switch through is the difference in going forward and backwards for games. Quick press for forward, Long press for backwards. (The reason it's not in alphabetical order is because it's the order it's added to the SD card. It's based on the FAT number)

I still dont get why this card doesnt just show all the games at once, like what happens with games like the FNAF collection, where putting in the cartridge shows all the games at once. My guess is size (probably not) but regardless I'd like to hear thoughts on why these cant do what the fnaf cartridge does

Hey I’ve a question for anybody who plays a Nintendo switch, I have a Nintendo switch and my sister is going to purchase one, she wants to play some of the games I have on my switch, I was thinking if she signed into my account on her switch would she be able to play my downloaded games that way she wouldn’t have to buy them?

This is going to cause a nightmare for the 2nd hand games market if Nintendo start banning consoles based on a used unique game identifier! You won't be able to trust any used games!

The Switch is on its way out anyways, might not be the most important thing to deal with things like this

Rather than a new method they need to have the card load into a folder or front end where you can just scroll and select what game you want.

They used to sell SD cards with built in WiFi, surely they could do the same with these and allow you to change games via app on your phone?

I bought one of these when the V1 was first getting coverage on KZbin but they were backordered and it still hasn't shipped. I got an email saying I'd be getting a V2 shipping soon. I also ordered the Dumper with it so I can dump my own carts. Love the button on this though. Seems like an improvement. Would love to see some kind of menu like other flash carts support though.

I'd suggest they make a replacement switch cartridge slot cover with it's own button in it

Honestly, all nintendo need to do is a software update that limits the number of games that can be inserted in the cartridge slot for an hour. Or memorise the order in which the games are inserted. either way it wouldnt block the use of the Mig switch but would make it a pain for the users not to get caught (like having only a couple games at once on the Mig switch)

The only thing I care about at this point when it comes to switch is liberating my dozens of gamesaves from my switch. Whenever the switch lite gets hacked, or some device comes out that lets me extract those files I hope you'll do a video. I hate playing on that device, and I would way rather play on my steam deck.

I ordered it for game preservation purposes directly from their store as the switch seems to be the last primarily start most games without needing to download files from servers which will eventually go offline. My order is taking a long time because I am waiting for the dumper. V1 one orders are are now upgraded to v2 carts so I am looking forward to that when mine eventually arrives.

I got my mig switch. It's useless without the dumper. And it took 7 months to get it. But they did send version 2 with the button.

If they actually remove backwards compatibilty I'm pretty sure it would really really hurt their sales. (I for one wouldn't buy one at all) It would make more sense to do some exchange program where they give you a new game card for your old game card or something.

5:04 if it works like the amiibo carts of olde, it goes in the order that you added the files to the sd card

I know this I am making an extreme solution about what Nintendo might do about the dumper. But the new Switch is not out yet. So they could delay when the new switch is released so they can go from the cartridge to something different in order to play the the games. And we will be unable to play the old game on the new system.

Do XCI or NSP files downloaded from internet work on this? Like I put the SD card into my computer, I then put the XCI files on it and then put it into switch, will it play the games?

Honestly, I don't even need any advanced switching, I'd be content to just swap out MicroSD cards to change games. It's not something I do so frequently that it'd be a pain.
