Dont get how GTWS are ”not only ok with”, but emphasize the need for a big team to win you races. What!? Get all the advantages you want before/after the race from your team, but on race day there should have an equal playing field along the course. Should make it abundantly clear if on course assistant is something you should plan and arrange for. Really appriciate the videos though. Well made and exciting. Many thanks! Very appriciated 💐

Wow those are some unfair rules. Apparent from the fact that not everybody reads 28 rules just the fact that some have a big team helping them and some are racing on their own makes it totally unbalanced...

Great video, so cool to watch well made content about trail running. Yet it was really disappointing to learn that the race/series rules are not fair for each athlete. Sad that GTWS would give Salomon and other big teams fuelling advantages.

I agree. Rules seem like they need to be adjusted/redrawn a bit. I appreciate that the athletes kept a good attitude about it all though.

Interesting series. It is a bit concerning to see someone like Remi Bonnet being extremely underweight. I suppose it is linked to his background as a skimo athlete, but I certainly hope he's getting the support he needs. It's also very unfortunate that people from certain teams get advantages that others do not have. A sport can't take itself serious when it allows to let this happen.

So let me get this right - self-supported doesn't actually mean self-supported at all, the rules seem to vary on the day, and independent athletes are being put at major disadvantage and squeezed out, in favour of a few big sponsored teams? Because that doesn't exactly come across as all that "sporting" for a "sport" that claims it wants the world to take it seriously yet shows no interest in addressing such troubling inconsistencies - and I'm outta here...

I have a question - these guys are sponsored by Salomon but they have a Red Bulls hat. So can they have multiple sponsors? I am unclear how that works.

The sponsors do not conflict (eg Red Bull is an energy drink, not a shoe/clothing company)

Saying "Self Supported" when you mean you mean "No Official Aid Stations" is more than a little misleading. I get that there are nuances of language, but I feel that operating in a multi-nation space clarity of statement in a language is a fairly basic requirement. Trying to wave it off with a "it's on page 28 of the rules" is a little too hand-wavy. Especially when you follow up that statement with talking about how having a big team is key to performance and holding up a large corporate sponsored team as an example. Way to marginalize the athlete.

"Running fast is all that matters now." Sorry, but this simplification caters to the media and dumbing down of a complex sport. Just consider tactics and strategy. Then there is experience -- how many athletes win all their first races in a season? How many win the same race year after year? How about luck and weather? Running fast is never enough. Watching all these athletes fall down in this video is yet another media sound bite akin to professional cycling when the media focuses on only the crashes shown over and over. I despise media gloss on any sport. The GTWS team is NOT Rio Madrid as trumpeted at the beginning of this vid. I'm going to go watch the Barkeley videos again because those runners are real people, suffering ugly and triumph without the media gloss.

With. several Spanish elite runners, I also think it would be a good idea to have these videos in Spanish. The 2019 season had the recaps in English, Spanish and French. I still watch them in English because I've been training my ear to different accents and want to be able to understand everybody.
