In this video, I show a new public preview feature in Vertex AI Search and Conversation: Generative Playbook Agents.
Generative Playbooks make creating chatbots on Google Cloud that can take actions and ground responses in data much easier.

Note: one thing I did not show in the video was the creation of examples to make the bot work more reliably. When creating chatbots that you intend to use in production, make sure you include examples.

Nice. I’m just coming back to the Google tech stack after five years. I was shocked to see old skool dialogflow still hanging in there. Relieved to see it being relegated to the scrap heap as it should be: sequential,modal chat interfaces are the worst of both worlds. My biggest complaint about the search and conversation apps is that the underlying components they use are not visible, which means if you’re not happy with their choices you have to rebuild everything yourself,, which is 10x more expensive

Dialogflow is old but still going! :) And yes, the Search and Conversation experience is meant to be an out-of-the-box solution and they it is right now it is a bit of a black box. However, there's a lot of development going into making customizations possible. For example, in Vertex AI Search, you can already bring your own embeddings, customize LLM prompt, set boost and bury search controls, and a few other things (although unfortunately most of these can only be done via the APIs and not the UI yet). The goal and vision of the product is to be something managed by fully customizable.

Can you explain more on the cloud function creation? which "Runtime service account" to choose? it is linked to app or agent? which roles this SA should have?

Victor I have been trying to build a chat bot in Dialogue Flow cx. However it seems that this tech is defunct. Would you do private lessons to get my chatbot built using the new Google chatbot protocol. I would be very keen to do this asap. 😊

I wouldn't say Dialogflow CX is defunct! Google continues to invest in it. However, for people who just want a generative AI agent (an LLM-powered bot that can take some actions and follow a playbook), this product here that I showed, which lives outside of Dialogflow, is perhaps something you can look into. I don't do private lessons but as soon as the product matures a bit more I can do a more in-depth video which will hopefully help. Thanks for your comment!

I have created the agent using generative playbooks, but now, when this agent is opened in the console, there are no options of playbooks, and when I test the agent, it doesn't respond.

Playbook has been removed … agents have been added where u can specify all of these stuff

Do we not have voice integration with this feature?

No not natively. Perhaps would of the integrations (Viber, Skype) would provide that. The product is in early stage so stay tuned for more in the coming weeks
