Hey y'all! I recently came up with a fun surrealist writing technique, and in this video I walk through what it is and give some examples of it in connection to a short story I wrote using the technique.
You can read the story at my website below:
www.oldschoolc...
Let me know if you use this technique to create anything!
Cheers!

I truly believe writing is a form of ex nihilo creation, an alchemy of sorts. Especially poetry. Thank you for this technique, I'll use it in my poetry.

Any rules I invent are changed when I dream, a raised eyebrow and the dream giggles, tonight I have no power at all but once a month I can fly.

Yah, I think that's pretty accurate! I'm always happy to hear more perspectives on what constitutes the boundaries of different concepts, including genres, etc.

It’s funny because all our thoughts aren’t original, in the sense they are seemingly floating around to be picked by certain people who are looking. I do this and I know other writers who do this and similar type of so it’s cool to know that! 💃

Great method James. I stumbled into bibliomancy about your age as a means of poetry and scrying and I didn't know it was an actual thing. In my method, like yours I'd let my fingers find words. Eventually it was like my hand was taken over and whole poems and narratives would come out. I started with 1 book at a time and some days would use up to 20. I tried pairs and triplets and quadruplets and then went for whole narratives automatically. Keep experimenting but be sure not to get bogged down in rules that make writing hard, otherwise you'll never end up writing much. An addition to your idea. Add stream of consciousness to each word and paragraph. Go wild! Let your random words merely be way points that change the direction of the narrative. Great to see another generation exploring surrealism and being inventive! Great stuff James! 😉🦘Bright Garlick.

Great points! It's good to let the rules be conducive to writing more and more, rather than burdens that keep us from writing.

Badass man! I love wordplay experiments and i set rules for that sake that i apply when i write but more informal parameters..."if the circumstances on the page or pronounced if rehearsing or "writing" in your head cause thoughts of the exp. guidelines then do it no matter what. Its productive if you can stick to your worthy ideas over a stretch of time(moods, points, insight, purpose) that way it becomes more n more accessible but this so shows, extensively, if writing styles, techniques, power etc. Is executed in ways or with results that happen due to the exp. Differences exclusively or if consistent use doesnt make its own impact in any notable way, the time n patience taken in process makes trusting its a bust easier if nothing else...jk. it's fun...but doing it to the extent you are, will legitimately change lives of writers at the least. Ill definitely be tuning in. I just heard you welcome writing in... is that something youre still encouraging? Any details i need that are in your Video info? Thanks alot though, i appreciate your obvious work, skill and love for words. Also in your game do you allow a set of words that match your drawn words phonetically...(bit her wind oh, bit'er when dough...sometime those go on forevvver) i can geek out on that all day im afraid. Thanks again. I used to apogize for length but i never have been sorry so i quit that lol

@@creationofthebirds yeah absolutely, I am planning on making a development vlog at some point here. Turns out 3d graphics are extremely hard, but I have the core mechanics down. I am currently stuck in blender hell though. I'll let you know one it's up so you can check it out. But essentially, it plays off of archetypes, they're is a database, which is essentially just a spread sheet, of different types of characters that will have different motivations. Their archetype dictates how they will interact with the world, someone who is "evil" will try to influence you to steal or kill people as their goals are more important than others lives. This is a simplified example, but pretty much gets the idea across. All of the NPCs are randomly generated, but they all fall in to a type with a sub type of personality. It's not super in depth, but it makes it more replayable as you never know what kind of person anyone in town is or what they may want you to do.

Don't use the word "juxtaposition." Worse word in the English language. Try "contrast."
