I still buy disc the huge majority of the time. Can't walk into Walmart or wherever and buy digital games on sale. When a new game comes out the retail stores tend to drop the prices faster than the Microsoft/playstation stores on the consoles.

Taking the disc drive out is a massive deal-breaker for a lot of us. Did they not think about the majority of people that have physical collections. I'm not selling all my physical games just so I can buy them all again at an insane price and never get any of that $ back. Prime example is bo4 still being sold at 80$ on the Xbox store when I got the pro edition on disc for 15$

I’d much rather get the standard Xbox Series X over this. The new Xbox isn’t even a box. However, the new controller is an improvement. It finally has an accelerometer, but I’m a not a fan of how “squashed” it looks compared to the previous controller. I’m also not sure if it has the same amount of haptic feedback as the PS5 Duelsense.

I think we need to say it like it is. Game companies are bordering on defrauding consumers by calling digital purchases "purchases". They're not purchases, they're rentals. That's why it's misleading to have both buttons that say "rent" and "buy" on a service for digital products. Both are rentals, one is just for a longer period than the other. And these companies know that consumers would hesitate to spend serious cash if the button said "long term rental" instead of "buy".

Piracy helps ensure my digital purchases remain mine. Bought a lot of 3DS titles digitally back in the day, and now that that eShop is dead, guess what? Still have them. If my 3DS storing them dies, I've a second 3DS unit modded and ready to go with backups of those purchases. Takes a little effort, sure, but that effort is worth it to avoid all the BS surrounding physical these days: the collectors, the scalping, Phoenix reselling, the "limited" releases and all the fomo and crazy long shipping times, the Wata graders running up prices, etc. Physical has become stupid.

I think every physical copy should come with a digital copy also. They could easily charged $5 more per game if you got physical and digital together like they do with Blu-ray DVD digital packs. Digital copies don't cost them anything. When the Nintendo eShop goes down we are all screwed. It just sucks that we live in a world where we are all paying to be beta testers and games are nerve coming out unfinished even on a cartridge and so physical media a lot of times doesn't even make a difference because the physical product is useless because the game wasn't finished when the physical product was made

Finally! an Xbox controller with an accelerometer and (hopefully a gyroscope as well). Gyro aiming is way more accurate than dual analogue and gamers who don't like it can just turn it off. The PS3 controller from 2006 had an accelerometer. All I can say is, better late than never, and it's about time! Update: It just occurred to me that the accelerometer might be used only for the lift to wake feature. I really hope that isn't the case.

This is the dark future i have been worried about for decades. If this is how consoles will evolve i will not be buying new consoles. I am more than happy with old consoles that have physical games.

No disk drive for a reason y’all. Sony has owned blu ray technology since they created it. Xbox is probably trying it’s best to get away from blu ray because they don’t wanna keep paying Sony for royalties. Plus with game pass it’s becoming technically easier to play without a disk. But that being said, I ain’t getting it since my Xbox One X still run incredible and usually have it setting at 1440p-120hz (virtually similar to series S but still better graphics) and it amazing

After hearing you mention it, I could be ok with a digital only main console that has an external disc drive option. I've got a handful of games that I still own physically, and some of them are not purchasable digitally. Army of 2 is an example I just stumbled across. I can pop my disc's in to play. But it doesn't seem to exist on the digital store at all

Im somewhat on the other side of that pond, seeing xbox do anticonsumer tactics over and over and the games I grew up with on the OG XBOX deteriorating into a hollow DRM/A-O cashgrabs of a husk; and the other consoles following suit with xbox is pushing me to retro more than anything. In a decade im sure Linux gaming with DRM free games on GOG is the only way we will own our games.

The real good thing about this new Xbox is the memory upgrade going up to 2tb. I already have the black series S, I'm good with that have a 2 terabyte memory card.

Microsoft could opt to use a USB-C 4.0 and allow for an eGPU option. The new Xbox Series X Generation II looks fairly small and unobtrusive, while offering subtle performance improvements and twice the storage of the Generation I model, while maintaining the same price. If Sony comes out with a PlayStation 5 Pro that costs significantly more than their previous models, the cost of the eGPU might be reasonably affordable by comparison.

Same GPU with no disc drive for the same price is crazy. And for anyone sayint the extra TB is worth it, i got a 980 PRO 2TB for my PS5 for $125. 2TB Seagate card for Xbox is $269 right now. You will get scammed in the long run buying this. So glad i picked up the Series X last month
