I used to live in Gosport at Freighter Gate in the early 60's. My friends and I would often go to the railway line used by Queen Victoria when she went to the pier in Stokes Bay to get to the Isle of Wight. It carried mainly freight, if I remember correctly. Big, noisy steam trains. My house was next to the gate into the dockyard and Fareham Road would be closed by rail crossing gate when rail freight was brought in or out. I went to the primary school on Fareham Road but the school and the open fields have been built up into a housing estate. My mum lived in Alverstoke from 1975 until 2023. She loved walking down the bay to the lifeboat station. It's a good build. Well done.

From what I recall, passenger service stopped around '56 for Gosport, so only freight from there on till the end, but my family didn't arrive in the area till think '84 (from Kent) then I appeared heh But do remember wandering round the track near one of the bridges when I was at school in the 90s, though nothing ran during that time, though I vaguely recall one train passing by once, might've been one of the last freights or just a weedkilling train but that's the only thing I saw running on there before it got changed into a bus route! And cheers very much, glad you enjoyed the build!

Thanks for the video. They look great AND because I have two island platforms I will be able to use both station buildings. I really like how Metcalfe tend to provide a little extra in their kits. My only complaint is the larger building being 55mm wide will be about 5mm too wide for my platform width so a small amount of alteration during the build may be required. I have used a few of these Metcalfe card kits (signal boxes, engine shed and platform stairs & bridge - they all look so damn good - much much better than plastic kits that look like toys.

You're welcome! And do quite like how Metcalfe kits are, though do agree they can be bit bigger than ideal at times but being card they are easy to modify. I have tried plastic kits before as well, and they do the job, but do agree that without a decent amount of work they do look more on the toy side due to it's harder to hide the plastic look to them, but think they work better on the beginner/younger user side due to they don't have many pieces and aren't too hard to put together. Personally though I mostly go with card/paper builds for my own projects now as I can get them to fit where I need them to go.

Thank you very much, and yeah was just for a tutorial so just wanted to focus on what the kit included, but is with it's new owner now!

Nice video James I have been building Metcalfe kits for years now never been disapointed by one of their kits really nice solid job on yours. All it needs now is a bit of weathering on the roofs and a bit of signage.- Nicholas.
@GosportRailworks3 жыл бұрын
Ta very much Nicholas, and have used them before, mostly for my first layout, Renham Downs and was quite pleased with how they turned out. And it would look rather nice weathered and with extra details on, though might leave that to the new owner as was thinking of doing give-a-ways with scenery kits to start them off!

Good solid job and I think the Metcalfe kits are really good - done one or two myself and I go down the corner edges with a felt tip pen just to finish it off. Keep up the good work and all the best. Cheers

Glad you enjoyed it, and yeah the corners aren't too hard to do, just after building it all I got bit lazy heh, I might also need some new felt tip pens too since I can't remember where I left them, oh well, will see what the pound shop has! Cheers very much again!

Very nicely built James. The kit looks like a much improved version of the first Metcalfe kit I built. The platform waiting rooms are much more generously sized; on my kit it was basically a brick shed with windows 😳 Perhaps this is a station for a slightly richer area🤣 The give-away idea is great, perhaps as you reach your next subscriber milestone? Great video as always👍 Andrew 🙂

The first Station kit I put together was the Scalescenes one, and that was just a shed with a timetable board on the side heh, and it does seem more grand than what could be considered for a small country station, so would have to be a larger country station, at least two platforms, maybe a a third platform or at the very least a bay! And that is a great idea, I am only 25 subscribers away from 700 (though it goes up and down all the time, sometimes does worry me when too many leave but it's up to them), though will be putting it through Patreon so that anyone at any support tier has a chance to win (if more people support I'd give-away better things etc), though if 700 subs comes sooner, I'll do the give-away for that! Cheers very much Andrew and glad you liked the video!

You get a lot of buildings in that kit. I am OO scale, so no good for me, but I hope they find a good home. Martin. (Thailand)
@GosportRailworks Жыл бұрын
Indeed you do get a fair few buildings from the kit, and that's all fine, and they did go to a good home, though was a while ago so can't remember who won it heh

Great tutorial, James. Do those kits have textured brickwork and roofs or are they just printed on?
@GosportRailworks2 жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it! And unfortunately they are printed on without texturing, hope that helps!

Glad you enjoyed the video, and still unsure if doing it as just donating or as something to put as a patreon thing (eg. support me with a £1/month, entered into give-a-way to get something worth more than £1), though if I do just donate it, will give you a heads up so you can get it!

Will be via Patreon, do have a link to my page on my main youtube channel page (near the channel banner), but will be doing a video about it soon to explain more about Patreon etc, was gonna hold off mentioning it till I got bigger but figured might as well do a proper announcement of it anyway.
