Prepare to be spellbound by a live action outdoor theatre spectacular. Kynren immerses you in the telling of a 2,000 year tale: the history of England.
Performed every summer on a seven and a half acre stage - the scale of five football pitches - a volunteer cast and crew of 1000, magnificent horses and a menagerie of other starring animals and is played out in front of an 8,000-seat amphitheatre known as the Tribune.
Join Arthur, the son of a mining family, on his spell-binding journey through time and watch legends come to life.
See Boudicca's courageous but doomed uprising against the Romans and the clash of the Viking and Anglo-saxons at the battle of Stamford Bridge.
Experience the excitement of daring jousting knights on horseback and witness the future King Arthur as he draws the sword Excalibur from the stone.
These are just some of the 29 dramatic scenes as Kynren takes audiences on a thrilling, action-packed and emotional journey through time.
The world class show is brought to life with magnificent sets, mass choreography, combat, stunts, horsemanship, stunning pyrotechnics and amazing special effects, including water jets and state of the art video projections.
Award-winning composer Nathan Stornetta has worked alongside film score master Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, The Dark Knight Rises, Pirates of the Caribbean), and has created Kynren’s epic soundtrack, that evokes drama and excitement.
The dialogue itself features the distinctive tones of Kevin Whately, best known for his roles in Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Inspector Morse and Lewis. Kevin plays the part of Old Arthur, the character who reveals the secret of time travel to Young Arthur, setting him off on his quest for knowledge and discovery of the meaning of ‘Kynren’.
Kynren echoes the Anglo Saxon word ‘cynren’, meaning generation, kin or family, and reflects the inspiration among those involved in the production.
The 90-minute performances start at sunset and end in starlight and will be taking place every Saturday night from 27th July to 14th September 2024.
New for 2024 RETURN OF THE VIKINGS!

Kynren is produced by 11Arches, a registered charity whose objective is to produce a world class historical show, underpinned by a foundation of an innovative and engaging arts, education and community development programme.
