For those wondering why it didn't split, until the wreckage was discovered in 1985, the ship breaking was hotly debated. Many survivors testified that the ship did split, while several were merely suspicious. Despite the 144 testimonies that specifically mention the ship's last moments, only 7 stated specifically that the ship didn't split. Those 7, which included 3 of her officers and 2 well reputed authors, was why the ship sinking in one piece acquired its longevity and influence. Their reputations as authors and officers won over the regular passengers. 9 of the 144 said that due to the darkness they could not be sure what happened. It's quite sad but you can find videos of the last few survivors literally being silenced at history conventions for saying the ship split. At least now things have changed, but it's still sad to think they spent a lot of time literally fighting to be heard.

It's been said that the White Star Line really pushed the "Titanic didn't break in two" narrative because they were afraid it would cause the public to doubt the structural integrity of their fleet and lead to a loss of revenue.

I fail to see how that matters. It doesn't impact the casualty rate in the least. If you were under the stern, you already broke every bone in your body from the fall and it's not possible to swim there from the midsection, let alone the bow without freezing to death well before you get there. Besides, the same ship is still on the ocean floor rusting away till only a red stain remains, in one piece or many. What's so wrong with pre 1985 films depicting it this way? The evacuation and lowering of lifeboats matters more, and that is precisely what these focus on rather than some fictitious couple taking focus away from historical figures. And they don't focus on the lifeboats nearly as much as this film or have as many *Carpathia* scenes.

I've always admired the old man at 03:31, comforting the young boy. I like that he said that they'll find the boy's mother soon, as a kind of way to keep their mind off of the sinking boat. @HugoGHA Жыл бұрын
Unlike movie depictions, the real J. Bruce Ismay was not a cowardly, full of himself villian. The American press, controlled by William Randolph Hearst (who deeply hated Ismay), was what destroyed his reputation and distorted his actions. Ismay never pressured Smith to go faster, he was just praising Titanic's speed (despite having not been made to be fast) and deduced they would "beat Olympic and get to New York on Tuesday" in this rate. On the night of the sinking, he helped passengers into lifeboats and only got out on Collapsible C (the second to last boat to safely leave the ship), without pushing his way in, as the deck near this boat was nearly empty at the time.

Actually, modern theories (which are not necessarily correct) say that the 45 degree angle of the stern was an exaggeration. The real angle, prior to the ships break up (which is not depicted here) was perhaps 25-30 degrees. Why? Idk for sure; but up the back were the two big arse steam engines and single turbine. You'd think the weight of all the water in the bow section would counteract even that machinery, but the stern had a hefty weight. After the bow broke away, the stern ended up sitting vertically, with the steam engines sitting at the bottom of that half of the ship, pulling it directly down. Then she went. 2:20 why did the funnel fall?
@TitanicApril1510 ай бұрын
Maybe because the way the ship was leaning
@HugoGHA3 ай бұрын
I think the reasoning behind the falling funnel on this movie is because the angle of the ship was steep, which doesn't really make a whole lot of sense because of the way they were built. During the real life event, the two forward funnels fell because of water pressure crushing their bases. The third funnel fell because it was heavily damaged by the breakup. The fourth funnel is reported to have not fallen, however.

I think too many are preoccupied with whether or not Titanic split in two or not, and not depicting it in this film or others predating the 80s. Does it matter? In one piece or many, there was still great loss of life as well as money, and the ship still went down to the ocean floor and disappeared for decades before discovery. And it won't matter when the wreckage continues to rust till only a red stain remains. The evacuation scenes compose the better part of the movie, and they are the ones that actually matter most; the fates of the eighteen lifeboats lowered away and the two extras floated off the slanting deck and those who got to them make for the most compelling story, and there's a good reason the film focused on them most. This didn't blatantly break the laws of physics by going completely vertical and stop sinking for a minute or two for theatrical effect.
@imadoglol44454 жыл бұрын
It didn't split in this movie because the split wasn't discovered yet also we just want to know what went down there on that cold night
@TheNotverysocial4 жыл бұрын
@@imadoglol4445 I actually don't give a damn about it, and was pointing out how silly others are to get hung up over it. This film is still superior to *Titanic* in everything except budget. In the end, it doesn't impact the casualty rate one way or another whether it went down in one piece or many, still all others make a huge deal out of it.

Because too many people refused to believe what the survivors of the sinking said about the Titanic breaking in half before sinking until the actual Titanic wreck was finally found and that was about 27 years after this movie was released.
