My coal miner grandpa killed was in Harlan county Ky in 1941 feuds. I have the two $1 scrip coins he had in his pocket that day. I started mining coal in June 1978. I’m still working in the mines but not coal. I’ll be done soon. Thanks for the video. Our momentos of people and times gone by mean so much to us.

Just recently come across your channel. My father was an engineer at the Joy chain plant up until 99. He went down in the mines often throughout his career whenever there was an issue. He loved his job. I've been machining for the last 20yrs at a few different shops finally making my way to the chain plant a few yrs ago. Just want to say, I take my time to make sure the parts I machine are to spec. A mistake on my end could potentially cause someone else injury and I'd prefer not to ever hear of that happening. Appreciate your videos.

14 years underground myself!!! Longwall mostly for the last decade…I remember my first time running a buggy in low coal after just getting my black hat, I leaned my head out coming up on the dump and the cable popped me in the nose and blacked my eyes, haha!!

Dan thanks for the video I worked underground for 1 year then transferred outside. But I know coal mining is hazardous work. Good money but hard work. Long-wallers are amazing at how they work.
