2:09 Huh... A $1500 water heater will cost over $5k installed??? Doesn't sound right unless you have major electrical work involved. If I'm just replacing a electric resistance element water heater with a heat pump water heater, the scope of work is identical.

Price gouging, plain and simple. Much better to install it yourself it you are capable.

Pretty standard. I'm sure glad my dad taught me how to do EVERYTHING - he built his houses from a bare lot to finished with his own labor and taught us all that. I installed solar a few years ago. My cost for materials was $30,000, and it took me working by myself about 6 days to install. The quotes I got for an identical system installed were about $90,000. So they were expecting people to pay $60,000 for 4 dudes for 2 days.

I installed an Aosmith 6 years ago it is the same as installing a standard electric except for running a condensate line. I applied for and received 2 separate $300.00 rebates and paid $1200 for the heater making it at the time $300.00 more .

@@John_Ridley You should also consider that they raise their prices by that much because of tax incentives for renewables.

The AO Smith water heaters are more expensive In my area and I don't understand where you're getting your prices.

I just had an AO Smith Heat Pump Water Heater installed yesterday. I have solar panels, so my electricity is virtually free for me. My basement isn't heated so taking the warm air around the tank really won't do very much, so I just run the tank on pure electric mode. It doesn't require the fans to be running as well. In the summer, if the basement gets up to 70 degrees, I may switch it back to hybrid mode.

I also have solar panels. If you don’t mind me asking. Do you get a 50 66 or 80 Gallon tank? Did you see a major difference on the electric consumption?

@@youngblood6411 Hi Youngblood. That's a good question, and one that I really can't answer. It is a 50 gal. tank. Since I wrote that post, I have opted to use hybrid mode all the time. I can't really answer the electric consumption question because I never actually receive a bill. My "statements" only show a credit to my account. Beginning last month, my statement finally showed use of (net) 44 kWh for October. I'll use some regular electricity now through February and start rebuilding the credit beginning in March. As well as having that electric water heater, offsetting my natural gas use, I also have had a plug-in hybrid car and rarely ever pay for gas at the pump. Again, I never eat all of my electric credit, so it's difficult to gauge the actual consumption. If you have enough panels on your home to cover all your electric needs, you shouldn't even need to think about it. Hope all goes great with your solar and water heater!

@@Royalle_with_CheeseThank you for the response. I appreciate it. I will be looking to purchase an AO Smith this week being that I also have Solar Panels.

@@youngblood6411 Three things: Is your current water tank running on natural gas? If so, that's great. You'll reduce that portion of your gas bill. I'm looking to replace my gas dryer with an electric model. The second thing is, I also had to hire an electrician to run a dedicated line from the circuit panel box to the water tank. You may have to as well. That adds to the overall fee. Make sure you can coordinate with an electrician to do that before or at the same time as the plumber installing the new tank. Whenever I go for the electric dryer, I will have to have an electrician install a new dedicated line for that. Just a head's up that there will be added expense, but a one-time deal. Whenever your new electric water tank goes, and it will, the electricity is already there. You'll just be having the new tank installed. The plumber can connect the electric line to the new tank. And lastly, the hybrid tank has a condensate hose (like the water from an A/C) that needs to be run from the tank, through a pump and into a sink. I hope you have a sink in your basement, or wherever your water tank is.

Do they have these in 220 or 240 volts ?
@tungtran68585 ай бұрын
Yes most is 240v
@Zedgo994 ай бұрын
120v is heat pump only version essentially, 240v is for those with electric heat coils added to the tank. Heatpumps are massively efficient so at full tilt 800w=2400w+ worth of heat transfer. Basically they only ever use the 240v plugs potential if you're drawing water enough to deplete the tank and at that point it'll switch in. Depends on electric cost but at a certain point its more worth it to just get a bigger tank or put a higher temp on the tank then use a than to use electric resistance. Which while per se not inefficient at 1:1 tends to turn out costlier than gas.

I got reamed by ream --- never buy that brand again - tankless hot water heater - required disassembly to " Clean" the burner which requires hours to do -- no visible dirt or flame rod carbonization - clean anyway re assemble - code goes way - rheam technical could not help- re using a 10 year old Japanese design under license - do it all over again every 2 to 3 years. NEVER buy that brand
