Nice video and images. I had to shoot facing south here in Scotland, the blues were part of the aurora. I caught blues and violets as well as reds and greens. Its good to know I wasn't the only person giggling like a child.

The best time under the sky in my life! I can see the same patterns in the sky as I captured from Poland. Clear skies!

Brilliant seeing them from as far south, Was watching them here in north east Scotland, was one the best nights I've seen for a while, Yh blues can be seen in the Northern lights normally right at the top, Our light nights got in the way to see the full sky lite up like you got.

Those dancing reds and greens are just phenomenal! I'm a lot further from the pole than you and we had a lot of red with just a bit of yellow-green on the horizon. What an amazing night!

Thanks for sharing your experience. Night like this make me remember why i love the night sky. Truly intimate experience with the nature. It wouldn't be bad if you continued with astrovlog more frequently. it's so inspiring ❤

Incredible!! A night I will always remember. I can't still believe we've seen the Aurora in The Canary Islands. I thought a lot about Alyn these days and how much he would have enjoy this experience... :/

man...goose bumps from the start to the end of the video...just amazing and magical. I witnessed this from home and I was trembling by the intense emotions the sight of the aurora was giving me.

This is amazing man. I’m just wondering what you used to capture the videos of the moving aurora. Is it possible to capture the aurora on video with my phone, or will I need a video camera?
@jakobsahner
@jakobsahner 7 ай бұрын
I shoot all my video (at night) with a Sony a7s. Its the best camera for low light video work! When the aurora is bright enough I think you can capture it with a modern phone but I wouldnt recommend it when you want a bright and clear image

Amazing captures! Did you set to focus to the hyperfocal distance at 16:30?
@jakobsahner
@jakobsahner 7 ай бұрын
No actually not, I honestly never used the hyperfocal distance in any shot over the years. When you shoot faster than f2 or even at f2.8 you just cant (at least in my experience with all my lenses) hit perfectly sharp stars across the frame without focussing on infinity. And since perfect focus on the stars is my main focus I dont use the hyperfocal distance. On the 14mm f1.8 its actually not a problem to get focus on the ground and the sky since 14mm is so wide the depth of field is so broad that you only loose focus very very close to the lens.
@namdrum

Thanks for the reply. I also prefer focusing to infinity, so I guess I have to move my foreground elements a bit further away from the camera or try focus stacking...

I have been trying to see the norhtern lights for 19 years and failed each and every chance to see it. But this time I was ready and the sky was clear and then the sky exploded. I saw all colors of the aurora: green, orange, yellow, red, purple, pink and even white. I also could see it with my naked eye and I'm night blind 😂 I'm in the middle of the Netherlands. Isn't it crazy that it was visible all the way to Italy. Earlier that day i burried a good friend and then this happened the same evening. As if he wanted to say a final goodbye 😅 Oh by the way, what camera were you using for filming the aurora?
@jakobsahner
@jakobsahner 7 ай бұрын
The Aurora was even visible as far south as the canary islands! Super crazy that we could see it and alot of us got clear skies! For the vlogs I use a combination of the sony a7iii for daytime/sunset time and my old sony a7s for nighttime. Clear skies Jakob

The second you look at your display and think "Hey I can see it", then looking up to the sky and get smashed by the view. There could be more to come looking at our Master of light and power. She is really working hard right now, months in advance of the awaited maximum of the cycle. For the sun it would be nothing to send a little more, stay tuned. Really nice video bud.
