Nice, both the works of the artists and also the comments are very interesting, for example the comments about drawing a person who is smiling. Thanks a lot.

Ten years later and I'm still so moved by this compilation of drawings. Every single artist featured here "brought it." As for the Old masters remark, Davy, I believe you are quite correct. There are phenomenal artists out there living today, but the likes of DaVinci, Velazquez, John Singer Sargeant etc are in their own league.
@DavyLimvideos4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment Spencer,glad you still enjoy watching these artists at work.They are all still alive and continue to draw portraits at Montmartre though Covid 19 has seriously disrupted us all this year.Stay safe.

Sir, how to become a master like you?? Drawing portraits in the real life is quite challenging... We need confidence... Honesty and integrity.. What I mean is what if I can't get their correct portrait???!! So how to master this Art of real life drawing?? I called it pure Art... No cheating!!!
@DavyLimvideos5 жыл бұрын
Firstly I am not a "master".I am still learning and it is a joy to learn.The journey will not end until I die.I encourage you to above all enjoy "seeing" and enjoy drawing.Learning to draw should be an enjoyable experience.One little trick if you feel there is something wrong with a portrait..look at your art in the reflection of a mirror..any mistakes become easier to pin-point.Good luck.Enjoy.

Agree. Therefore, why sit in the street, and charge 20 Euros for a portrait, if you can apply the same effort in a comfortable studio, and charge a few hundred Euros? It all boils down to online marketing. There are plenty of people who would be willing to pay a decent price for good quality draftsmanship.

That's the way a portrait should be, a reality even if it is disturbing to the viewer. It's the capture of a moment in time, a person in pain, or disguise, that moment in time which will never repeat. That model will probably never be seen again, or no one will ever know why the expression. Happy, sad who knows, it will be for the future viewer of such portrait to think 🤔💬 why does this person look angry, or sad.

Absolutely right. A likeness is not enough. Searching for the soul, the psychologic aspect of the person will make a better likeness. And a better portrait. Too many think a likeness is enough.

@archangelmike07 I (Davy)am using canson(cachou colour,smooth side).Gaguik and Samuel both use a creamy Ingres paper,with its distinctive linear grain.Toan,Ajar and Farchad usually work on the smoother side of grey canson paper.Canson has a grainier side whith more 'tooth'which is handy for colour work with pastel sticks.

Hi Davy. Love these vids of yours. Thank you for showing. I'm curious about two things please? Roughly how long do these portraits take to do and what do the artists charge for them?
@DavyLimvideos11 ай бұрын
Hi Michael. Actually, our prices haven't risen by much during the last decade. A monochrome portrait will cost 60 euros these days.That's an increase of about 1 euro a year. Meanwhile, the cost of living and price of art materials has been relentlessly going up. A monochrome portrait takes about 35 minutes, though some artists are slower and some faster. Color work in pastel takes longer, maybe twice as long and work from photos even longer.
