Thank you very much Jack90100productions for reviewing this classic movie, it is a shame that most people nowadays have never heard of it or seen it, I am glad that I was fortunate enough to see it on TV years ago, and then I bought it on VHS back then.

I too agree that this film does so many things perfectly! It's on my top 5 list along with Roman Holiday, The Best Years of Our Lives, I Confess, and Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison!

Apparently, Shelley Winters hated her character in this film

Yes it is a fantastic and compelling film. But I disagree that Gordon doesnt have romantic feelings for Selina. I think its pretty clear he does. He just knows thats a complication he needs to resist. Shes a white teenager. Its 1965. Shes never been educated and has been abused all her life. He knows the right thing to do is to put her well being over his desire. At least for a "year"... But there is absolutely no doubt that they have fallen in love with each other.

I absolutely love this film and I completely agree with you. I believe Gordon has romantic feelings for Selina, how could he not? But he knows the situation and complications are impossible to overcome and he puts his feelings aside in the best interests of Selina. I have always felt that eventually they manage to come together and their love overcomes all obstacles and prejudices ❤️❤️❤️

@@Hugatree1 yes this film aches for a happy fairy tale ending for both of them. I actually wrote in my movie review about wanting a sequel where they are married and happy and everything worked out, lol. But I get the sense that the missed connection at the end is symbolic of the idea that at this point their lives diverge and they follow separate paths and the blessing of the film is that their convergence, even if momentary, changed both their lives for the better. Especially Selina's.
