A PERMANENT FIX For Our Chronic Coolant Problems On Our R32 Swapped Mk2 Golf

In this video our Volkswagen Golf Mk2 with R32 engine swap has more coolant issues. We have more radiator leaks, so we are swapping out the old VW Corrado race radiator for a Mk3 Golf VR6 radiator. Some modifications and welding required. Hope you enjoy the epic cinematic shots!

Wow thank you very much for viewing all the way in S.Africa! 🙌 So glad you're enjoying the channel. Those bumper brackets that are fitted to the front wing can be bought via ebay or other VW parts suppliers. The parts that slot onto the brackets that are plastic riveted on the bumper can also be bought via these means. I've not fabricated anything for the bumper currently, only those bits on the radiator support panel.

@Lucas Ngwenya no worries. I hope you find the parts you're after. And thanks, the 3.2 is a great laugh and in my opinion, with the correct supporting mods, ideal in a mk2.

It looks like your bleed pipe, back to the header, is below the highest point of the radiator, it also looks like the header tank is lower too? That could cause air pockets at the top of the radiator and this could lead to overheating and affect coolant flow. Hopefully it's just the angles in the video!

On the Corrado radiator as seen at the beginning of the video the bleed pipe was well below the highest point for sure, as it came out from near the front of the inlet manifold and I do think this was a causal factor in many of the issues we'd been having, definitely. And with the outlet pipe coming out of the top of the rad (and above even the level of the slam panel) the expansion bottle was probably only just about level, rather than at the highest point. With this new setup the expansion bottle is significantly higher. And the top hose is almost parallel with the top of the radiator, but does angle down slightly. This is an OEM setup from a Mk3, just trimmed to length to reach the 24v thermostat housing, so 'should' (🤞) be far better... the camera angles do make it look far worse than it is in real life.

@@golfmk2 That's good to hear. I have encountered cars before that have had hidden bleed valves and failure to know about them, and use them, has caused problems similar to those you have encountered.

@Bob Miller as it's a pressurised system with the bottle being the highest point, so long as it's thoroughly bled when you have replenished the system it should be fine, and the blue expansion bottle cap is designed to vent any excess pressure and air locks. The old system with the top rad hose being so high did mean the expansion bottle was barely any higher though, so recipe for a world of pain!

Are you running pull fans?, if is the case i built a baseplate that works like a charm if you want i can share the laser cut drawings for alumium plate to mount the fans

That's interesting to know. You'll see in the next video on the fan setup I used. If I find these no good over time then your baseplate is certainly something to consider.
