I visit the City of Bath and have a look around for photographic opportunities. #photography #Bath

Hi Paul, Yes this worked very well especially your explanations at the start. Perhaps trying to explain on video as you go along looses some spontaneity? My favourite of them all was the couple on a bench, what were they saying to each other? I guess we'll never know. Also enjoyed seeing the crane, often the makers plate provides clues for further investigation. This is something I really enjoy doing, often ending up on graces guide sometimes it leads me into reports that other people have done. I have a couple on the back burner, one is at a children's park nearby where in amongst the traditional swings there is some brightly painted old machinery, maybe for treating fabrics, no graces guide on this one!! I digress One to repeat, well done!! All the best!!

Thank you David. Yes, you hit the nail on the head there with the spontaniety comment. It is a little tricky on both commenting, as well as composing the shots, as well as looking out for suitable subjects - and trying to be discrete and blending into the background too! That's why towards the end of the video I was concentrating on the photography rather than the commenting - I will need to have a little rethink, if I decide to do this format again. I have seen other photographers on KZbin do something similar (but not in the same style as mine), except they use a wide GoPro shot, so that you can see them actually using the camera at the same time. I really don't know how they manage to juggle both - I personally can't operate more than one camera at the same time! Also, I don't have a GoPro (and for personal, asthetic reasons, I don't want one - maybe I should do a video about that one day! - nothing against people that do use them though - I can see their advantages). All the video and photo shots, including my intro/outro bits to camera, were done using the same camera and same lens. I do think Bath really is a photographer's location dream though - every time I visit the city I find something new and different to photograph, including that magnificent crane this time. The couple on the bench was my favourite photo of this shoot too - particularly with how the trees looked in monochrome (I used an orange filter -- digital one in camera). Thanks for a great comment David. Take care, and hope you are having a good week. Paul

There were some great autumnal shots in there. I enjoyed this different sort of tour around Bath.

Thank you Michael. Yes, I might need to tweak the format a little, as I am still experimenting with it, but I did enjoy the couple of hours I had of daylight in the day with my camera in Bath going around - always so many opportunities to be had there. Take care, Paul

Some impressive colour/BW images of Bath's iconic architecture. I particularly like the innovative footbridge. Photographing human's is rather more difficult to pull-off successfully, but probably more rewarding.

Thank you Malcolm. Yes, there is always something of interest to photograph in Bath, I find. You're right - street photography, of people, is much harder, but more rewarding when you manage to pull something off. I do feel outside of my comfort zone doing it, but nothing worthwhile was ever achieved by staying inside one's comfort zone all the time. Take care, Paul

I’m always interested to know the thoughts behind creativity, Paul. I worked in Bath on and off over the past 30 years, seen some changes there too despite being an historic city. It’s useful to record these things as they look now.

Thank you Ian - great comment and I really appreciate it. Yes, I have kept every single photo and video clip I have shot since I started Westcountry Wanderings - literally thousands and thousands of images - costs me a fair bit in storage, but I think it is worth it, as you say things change, and fast! Already things I shot three years ago, look very different now already. I do think carefully about archiving, and what happens if KZbin was to suddenly close down - I cannot rely on what I have uploaded to 'the cloud'. Great to hear from you. Take care, Paul

Hi Paul. Enjoyed that. Great photos made very interesting seeing and hearing you planning them. Liked the format and I do like the monochrome photos. Great finding the crane too. 👌🏻

Thank you Darren. Glad you enjoyed it. Bath is a place I have always loved from my very first Primary School trip there when I was 7 years old to see inside No1 Royal Crescent. Magical place and, for me, it really is a dream location. Take care, Paul

Good Evening Paul. Greetings from Poland Lovely video. Your commentary helped me understand how you choose the shot, but sorry old friend, I didn't understand the photography jargon that went into making the shot. The black and white photographs were fantastic.

Thank you Michael. Hope you are having a good evening. Thank you too for the feedback - it is very much appreciated, and really useful too. Yes, it is a little tricky for me to strike the right balance when talking about photography, as my KZbin channel isn't a specialist photography channel, nor have I any intention of it ever becoming so. I quite like it being a variety channel, about various Westcountry related things, where viewers can pick and choose which videos on my channel to watch, depending on what they are personally interested in. Obviously, on the specialist KZbin Photography channels they do go much more in depth with the technical side of things. I try to not do that too much, but it is inevitable I may use some jargon! Sorry! I'm not sure which bits you didn't grasp but in this video I think I talked about 'focus points' and zoom versus prime lenses. A focus point is the area in the subject (through the camera's viewfinder, or display) where you want the camera's lens to focus in on. You can choose to do that by various means, manually focussing the lens, or auto focus, or adjusting the focus point. The rest of the intended photo will then be out of focus, depending on how much depth of field (the range of things nearest and farthest away from the camera) you are using - which you can also adjust in camera. So, the bit of the blue swing seat furthest away from the camera was in focus, but the bit closer to the camera was out of focus, as was too the trees behind the swing (towards 'infinity'). Prime lenses vs. zoom lenses. I tend to use a prime lens for street photography, but zoom lenses for videography and 'vlogging'. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. With zoom lenses, you can bring subjects in closer that are further away from the camera, or make more things visible by making the field of view wider. With primes - you can't! There is no zoom - so you have to use your feet to get closer or move back. However, primes tend to have better image quality, can be lighter, smaller, and, best of all, allow more light into the camera, so are really good in darker conditions. They also make you work harder for each photo - and can make you be more creative. Sorry for that lenghthy reply - hope it clarifies it. I will try and keep things more simplified for the general viewer in the future - that's a very helpful comment. Always great to hear from you. Take care, Paul

Now I understand. Thanks so much for the explanation. They say that variety is the spice of life. Variety is exactly why I love your channel so much. Don't change a thing please. From Dartmouth Steps to Photographs of Bath - in my eyes, every video is a winner, bringing enjoyment to my life especially during some pretty dark times this year. Once again old friend, thanks for everything you do

Nice little video Paul. I did like the square crop of the couple on the bench and the street shot at 8:16. Monochrome on a dull day like that is a wise move.

Thank you! Yes I used a digital orange filter in camera to enhance the mono shots with the coloured tree leaves around Queens Square and The Circus. It was an enjoyable day's shooting both videos there. Thank you for watching. Cheers, Paul

Paul, sometimes a photo is just that - the mind captures an image and sends a good feeling to the body, Then 'click' you've captured the essence. I follow a couple of photographers but I have to say - for me, it is about the enjoyment of the image and not about the technical aspects. I appreciate them, and realise for more the technicals it gives insights into the camera and the settings. You have a mixed bag of subscribers a( history lovers, couch travellers, less mobile people, possible UK visitors, also KZbinrs-to name a few categories) and with the descriptions of the whys and wherefores you meet the need for that group. Your channel is diverse and interesting. I enjoyed the photos and Bath. I also loved the length of the video. Thanks Paul for all your efforts. ❤🇳🇱🙋♀🥝 Have a lovely day. 👌

Thank you Anita! Glad you enjoyed it. I like what you have put there - you have said more in that part sentence than I ever could 'the mind captures an image and sends a good feeling to the body' - that's just brilliant! Yes, although I do talk about the technical side a little, I am not an equipment focussed person. Nearly all of the photography KZbinr Channels that I subscribe to talk about technique and the master photographers of old, rather than the latest gear. All that talk about latest highest specs leaves me a little cold. I really like my little variety channel and all the lovely subscribers that I have - I would never want to focus on just one thing, like trains, because I would soon become bored. Thank you for a really lovely comment. Happy travels and filming & photography. Take care, Paul

Thank you Diana! Glad you enjoyed it. Bath is one of my favourite Cities in the UK. Also, because of the large ish numbers of tourists as a photographer you can easily blend into the background - hard taking these sorts of shots in a village environment. Thank you for watching and commenting. Take care, Paul
