Chopin, then Scarlatti (?) before your break to talk about sight reading Then Haydn's big later period sonata and I don't know what that was at the end! All played really well. Yes, sight-reading is a valuable skill, and particularly if you're playing with an ensemble. My musicology degree is from University of Chicago where they required passing several "practicum" exams. Sight reading a keyboard piece; sight singing; reading from 4 parts with C-clefs; reading from a full orchestral score; and identifying the style and historical period of a piece based on a single page of music. Whew! That wasn't easy. I remember practicing from figured bass parts or string quartet scores. Fortunately, the orchestral scores were usually Haydn or Mozart, not Mahler or Richard Strauss! Keep up your good work.
