I learned about "Dragon's Blood" via an episode of CBS Afternoon Playhouse (hosted by Bob Keeshan, Captain Kangaroo himself!) I read Dragon's Blood and Heart's Blood to my son about this time last year, but haven't found the third book anywhere yet. I thought they were pretty good stories, and picked up on a few little things reading as an adult vs. a middle schooler. (That Bag Girls were hookers, I already figured that one out.) I think Yolen wrote two more books in this world, but I can't verify that at the moment.

Captain Kangaroo is a flashback I wasn't expecting this morning! Fabulous! Did your son enjoy the stories? I visited Yolen's website to see what other books were in her catalog (and it's A LOT) and none were obvious as part of this world. Making a note to DM the author about it...she was querying agents for a new book (I don't remember if it was YA or children's) when I was prepping this video...we should totally find those if they exist! It would be interesting to see what happened to the dragons!

@@SandySaysRead I had time to check, and the fourth book is called "Dragon's Heart." My son honestly doesn't pay much attention to whatever I read him. My wife and I have read a lot to him and his sister, I've lost track of many of them. Around the time we read the Pit Dragon books we also read a number of Ian Fleming's James Bond books, and "Men of Iron" by Howard Pyle. He said, given the choice of being a knight, a secret agent, or a dragon rancher, he'd be a secret agent.

@@Orionscribe Being a secret agent might be pretty darn cool, yes, but I'd prefer dragon ranching on another planet. Calgon, take me away.
