OOO! I made a similar one of those fret presses with a harbor freight $3.99 similar clamp and a $10 brass 12" radius brass fret cawl. I just left the soft rubber on one side and filed a slot into the other and epoxied that ho in. Works great

So, is the neck wood or plastic? I'm a bit confused...the colour suggest some kind of plastic/plastic coating from the late 1970's. If it is a coating on wood, did you consider sanding it and reshaping the neck? Great work as usual. Absolutely love that pick up. The overall aesthetic reminds me of a fortnight I spent in a psych ward during my wild youth! Pretty sure all the tables were coated in the exact same Formica. Good days.
@Notaluthier3 сағат бұрын
👀 yes perhaps Formica leads a lot of people to dark memories. The neck is wood…the coating might just be housepaint. It’s comfy even though it’s wonky

Unless you're using steel sanding blocks for your radius work, even the precut wooden ones are not high precision.

Period kitchens with that Formica often have hideous brass hardware... also oddly works with whatever color the neck is...

Is flat a valid way to dress frets? The maker just didn't have access to the tools and knowhow to crown them?

Yes. Classical style acoustics have flat fingerboards.
