One important feature about this device is that the screen is landscape native. Unlike other devices like the aya neo for example, where the screen is actually portrait, forced into landscape which causes all sort of resolution issues with many games. @@rowanquinlan6049 I absolutely LOVE! It. I did a couple tweaks that really improve the experience. First set motion assistant to start with windows and start minimized. Then in motion assistant set up some keyboard shortcuts for some TDP presets, and ones for + and - 1 TDP. I have it boot straight to windows when it turns on, and go to steam big screen by default. I have it set to shut down when you hit power and go to sleep when you close the lid. You dont need the app open. Click the windows Audio icon in the bottom right hand corner next to the clock to turn on / off DTS-X. Spacial audio off disables it. DTS-X only works for games running at a higher TDP like 10w and higher. Don't use DTS for lower wattages or you'll get sound clipping.

You can get more battery, im averaging about 3.5 to 4 hours. Set your TDP to 9, thats where the device is lowest but still stable in most games. Turn your battery saver option in Windows power setting on (most important, outside of tdp manipulation). Turn your backlight to 20%, thats the sweetspot for saving power but still being able to see. Set your resolution in windows to 720p. If your playing anything outside of steam. Exit out of steam as that also consumes power in the background. For further powersaving you can also manipulate the priority of programs running in your devices background. I now get almost 4 hours of playtime, which is incredible. Im on a GPD Win 4, 7640u.

OQO and Sony (Sony UX) were the first companies to put full Windows OS in a small handheld factor, they set the standards for these devices back in the 2000s but didn't catch on until GPD Win 1 in 2015, GPD was the company that brought it back and reimagined and improved on that concept, the actual name for these small computers is called a UMPC, or Ultra Mobile PC. People were all raving about how revolutionary the Steam Deck are, but those people don't know that UMPC had existed for a very long time, and Valve and the major PC brands doesn't understand this concept as well as GPD does.

If it was possible to choose the SteamOs version instead of the Windows version, I wouldn't hesitate. So people who would prefer StemOS have to wait for the community to release an alternative. For example, Bazzite OS works but is not yet polished. However, in my opinion it is worth waiting.

At the time I had the GPD Win, it was the only real name in handheld PCs, we didn't have a Steam Deck, or an Aya Neo nothin, or any of the options we have now. Excited to see how this bad boy feels. The only one I'm really looking at is the Steam Deck because of the trackpads, but this is definitely a contender... my rule of thumb (hah), is that if I can't play FTL: Faster Than Light on a handheld gaming PC (IE, it doesn't have a trackpad), I'm out.

I want one of these, but will probably never bite, maybe when newer models come out. The dpad and buttons seem really far to press. They give me anxiety to look at, but you seemed to play with them fine. They are completely inverted to the Steam Deck layout, which I have gotten pretty used to, I think that layout makes more sense. I can totally see the appeal in this device, and they have came quite far since their previous models. I like the portability of it, the fact you can close it and easily store it, even without a case if you needed to.
