honestly by the title I thought they were going to review a Ben Heck custom job or something lol
@razerow33912 жыл бұрын
You mean like Ben Heck. Yeah and also they cost serious money and required sometimes that you literally cut the mainboard in some instances. Ben Heck would be the first to say this is something to be proud of. He has a whole career behind him, literally. He is now retired technically! And this company, that is VERY small, has done well to make something that can be mass produced. What Ben Heck mostly did was modding. This isn't a mod.. It's a peripheral. So it is actually a little more than the standard "ben heck mod" though Ben has done stuff like this as well. The video is being a little harsh. But the price you pay for not jumping through the weird hoops LTT put on companies when deciding who to shill. They must have only sent one review unit... Silly company. You should know you have to send like 3-5 otherwise LTT bitch. And if you dare make them buy their own because you, and I quote "want to supply customers before reviewers" then expect a review video where they are salty about the fact. LOL. I think that's why they don't mention Element 13 and Ben Heck... They are scared people will realise LTT is entertainment and in no way shape or form informative or educational. Like I wouldn't trust any review from them. I mean they used to be original but recently... Is there any KZbinr they wont steal ideas from? Like Der8auer? But yeah to me this is quite the neat little design for families and people that perhaps use caravans or RVs a lot. Something with a leisure battery and plugs. Hell even if you just spend a lot of time in hotels. Can also see it being something of use in Children's hospitals perhaps for kids on chemo. I know someone that got into gaming and comics because of being in hospital so much. They got a DS and a PSP and loads of comics over the years they were in and out. It's so easy to dismiss a product based on your narrow view. It's like phones with huge buttons... To a normal person it does look silly but for someone with degenerative eyesight or poor eyesight it isn't... It's vital! Some products aren't aimed at people that watch LTT or the guys at LTT. This being the prime example. It's not for rich dads like Linus who can just buy his kids a steam deck each for when on holiday... Though I doubt he owns an RV. And none of them are the target user. Kinda like how they don't review Gillette Venus razors because they are aimed at women and all of them are men cause they only employ women in historically "female orientated" jobs and pretend that isn't blatant sexism lol.
@tiromandal63992 жыл бұрын

Honestly, despite it's flaws (and me being a PC gamer through and through), I feel like this has a lot of potential and that they get to make a second version with some suggested improvements. Maybe it's possible to share / pass through some of the Xbox Series S's power so they can have more power to the screen and speakers. On top of that improve the build quality, on-screen menu, and maybe release 3D print files of the feet?
@gorky_vk2 жыл бұрын
they just need to use dedicated PSU. Using power from unit is nice but it's not like xbox itself running from a battery and you need to avoid cables at all cost. Obviously this force them into compromises one can hardly accept at price they ask for the screen.
@vullord6662 жыл бұрын
It'd be interesting if this prompts Microsoft to make an official version or even just open up settings so you can play with how power is sent (this isn't the only portable screen you can give power to). I still say Microsoft should make their own version of the Steam Deck. Maybe if game pass goes to steam and does well that could pave the way. The Series S proves they can provide beastly power to a small form factor and they've had the best fans since the One X. Plus with Game Pass and Cloud Gaming (not just streaming, but introducing a larger program that incorporates Microsoft Flight Simulator's strategy which is to download some data and pull the rest from the cloud during play to create the beat experience) and Remote Play they're in the best position to sell portable console gaming (of course they'd need to be the first to work with cellular companies to make a 5G enabled device).
@pearce052 жыл бұрын
@@gorky_vk They don't even need that. Just add a male connector that plugs into the xbox, then a female connector for the xbox'x power supply to plug into, and split the power off to a simple voltage converter to power the display. You can get a brand new laptop for the price they're asking for this thing, so there's no way they can't fit like $1 worth of extra parts into the budget.
@gorky_vk2 жыл бұрын
@@pearce05 it's little more than $1 when you make product for western market but I agree that they have enough in their budget for it. But I don't believe that any company would go with solution that involve end user tinkering around high voltage connection. Even if that mean on plug more wasted it would give them security and ability to keep same form factor (avoiding dealing with additional heat etc). Most crowd founded items never arrive to customers so I guess fact that they deliver anything is good but this also prove rule n02; if you get it in the end it will be constructed like "as seen on TV" product.
@pearce052 жыл бұрын
@@gorky_vk two power connectors and a simple voltage converter are indeed less than $1 when bought in bulk, and there's plenty of room for those in the current form factor of this thing. "the volume is not evenly stepped" From the way you described it the problem is that it IS evenly stepped, if each step in volume is even then increasing from 1 to 2 is doubling the volume but increasing from 99 to 100 is roughly 1%. What you actually want is the exact opposite and for it to scale as the volume increases, I'm not saying what you want isn't the better way of handling it but it feels like you used the wrong words to describe it (unless 'evenly stepped volume' is a term in the industry then you can just ignore this comment).

I have an Xbox one which I bought in Hong Kong, when I moved from HK to the US I had to get a step up converter to use it as the US plugs use 110v while the HK Xbox was designed for 220v. When my parents and I went for a trip somewhere I decided to bring my Xbox and had to bring the converter, the cables and my controller+it’s case which took up half the suitcase(the hotel we went to had a TV). I could see the usefulness in this as I would be able to game without having to lug a shit ton of stuff and worry about it breaking but at the same time it’s not really at the level of portable gaming a switch has as it doesn’t run on batteries or seem good for local multiplayer as that would be the only reason I could see bringing my console with me anywhere

While I appreciate the negatives being pointed out, I do think the positives outweigh them easily. Using a USB to power everything is pretty slick. It's neat and tidy and worth losing a couple of ports while in use. And when you are done using it portably, remove the xscreen and hook it back to the TV. Also why would you leave the xscreen on and hook it up to the TV? That's not what it's for... Build quality could be better but I don't abuse my tech
@kaldogorath2 жыл бұрын
I wholly disagree. It would be trivial to have a passthrough for the other ports and at $250 they have the budget. You would leave it on so you could easily take it with you. If you're only using it on the go it's not an issue but if you're constantly swapping between TV and xscreen it's tedious to have to disconnect such a flimsy unit that's liable to break in the process.
@incendiary62432 жыл бұрын
You leave the screen on and hook it up to a tv because sometimes you're on the go, and other times you're at home. It would be more convenient if you didnt need to constantly unplug and replug everything. Also, its *really* expensive for what it is, which to me is the bigger issue, since I dont think itd be possible to keep it folded while in use on a tv because of heat issues

As far as the last point, you'd want a device like this to be "plug and play". Actually that's what the series S is right now. Its extremely easy to hook up and take down and light/small enough that it fits in your hand or any regular sized bag (and you literally only need 2 cords). Attaching and detaching an additional device EVERY time you want to go portable hurts the intent of that form factor. Think of the switch where you just pick it up off the dock and that's it (after initial setup). The console clearly wasn't built with a screen in mind and this is certainly a fine portable hack, but its a valid concern especially when you're telling someone to buy a product over $100.

You can use the xScreen on a Series S in a car using a cigarette lighter to plug converter Upspec Gaming show this on there Instagram page and maybe it's KZbin page xScreen is not a perfect product it does have it flaws and this video covered them perfectly but being an owner of one these xScreens I should know 😂 but it sure is an awesome addon for those long plane train and coach journeys for the kids in the car and visiting family and friends its perfect for those scenarios but as a everyday use screen id buy something else

I hope there aren't any unforeseen consequences at lambda labs. What's the worst that could happen? Also I do not understand what this achieves, sure this eliminates the requirement for an external screen, but this doesn't add a battery, so you're still going to have to be close to a power source. Making its portability argument, flimsy at best. It's not portable if you need to be close to a charging point to use it.

They could have gone for power passthrough. How older TFT LCD clamshell attachments work. But I think you are better off getting a huion tablet. Still 1080p but all usb powered and sturdy. If you want a speaker just use a JBL go. This is the best generic solution I use for drawing on PC, watching firestick TV on the go or when visiting family, and temp setups for my Xbox one, PC, Playstation 3-5 at LANs. It all runs from a single USB/USB-C port. And additional a HDMI connector (for a firestick get a 5 dollar female to female connector)

Regarding the "Car Inverter" be careful what you plug into that 12v socket. Generally most cars will have 10amp or 15amp fuse which means that socket can only output up to 120 or 135 watts. If the device starts sucking more then that it will blow the fuse.

As a semi-pro athlete, I can see a very obvious use case for this. We don't always get the best hotels, and although TVs are usually included in the rooms the io is not alway accessible, so being able to flip open an xbox for some healthy competition in between training sessions/games would be great.

@@NigelMelanisticSmith Ney not really, the only different between usb type C cables is durability and build quality. The tougher cables cost up to $20 for 6 feet.

This would be cool thing if I was traveling for work still, although they already sell portable cases that you set your Xbox or playstation in that have screens in them. That way both the console and screen are protected and I remember picking them up for less than this whole package combined
@javianbrown86272 жыл бұрын
I feel like for the exact use case a gaming laptop is easier, especially since you could actually have work done on it too and they have batteries. It would also have access to the same games and you wouldn't have to pay to play online so the only other factor would be the cost of the laptop and how much research goes into picking the right one for your needs
@xTXxCHIAx69x2 жыл бұрын
@@javianbrown8627 yes nowadays a gaming laptop is better and easier, but when I was traveling and working in the field this maybe a 4 years ago, gaming laptops were big ticket items that we didn't want to risk getting damaged, where consoles were looked as easily replaceable at the time
@javianbrown86272 жыл бұрын
@@xTXxCHIAx69x 4 years ago was just 2018.there were cheap laptops with like gtx1650s, the prices have roughly remained the same from what I’ve seen too. If by easily replaceable you mean cheaper then yes I can see the console being easily replaceable and probably lasting longer. It’s just that there were devices made for the same use case. If only Xbox had something like the PsVita

@@javianbrown8627 sure, but if you already have a s this is 199. good luck with 199 gaming laptop.
@javianbrown8627 Жыл бұрын
@@cryengine_x I guess even with the price of the Xbox, screen and online subscription it's still cheaper but if you want a portable gaming experience, something without a battery isn't optimal especially if it's this big and bulky. I've tried traveling with my console and it's not great. Steam deck exists now too I guess

Used to have a screen on my Gamecube like this when I was a child. It did wonders for me when I was dragged to my sisters volleyball tournaments that lasted 10 hrs. made sure to bring 4 controllers for the other kids to play stuck there as well. I became the arcade. miss those times but not the laminated floor.

It's a good idea, but I have been using USB Monitor's for a VERY long time. The one I am using to type this right now is a 1080p Asus USB monitor that is around 6 years old and has been running like a champ. Plug it into your USB port, ANY USB PORT, and your good to go. USB Monitors are cheap, reliable, low power, UP TO 4k (a bit more expensive and higher USB requirements), SUPER Thin, easy controls, pretty durable (they come with a decent case) and usually come with a build in stand. For literally HALF the money, you can get a VERY GOOD 1080p portable monitor AND you could add in a decent portable "solar" generator for TRULY "cordless" gaming with the Xbox series S. Yep, I call it "Gamping" a gamers camping vacation. You can also use this monitor with your phone or tablet to watch TV/Netflix etc while your not gaming (like that's a thing). Run straight from your "generator" and either use Solar Panels or your Car to charge it back up. There a lots of configurations to make the Xbox Series S "portable". If they could bet this below $100, THEN I might think about it.

I’m trying to save money, and my wife and I live in an apartment with only 1 tv. I bought a series s and I ordered this screen. So, instead of buying a gaming laptop for lots more money. I spent 300 for the Xbox, 250 for the xscreen for a total of $550 USD before taxes of .06% …. This is still way cheaper than a gaming laptop.

I served as cadre for a training unit of the nerd division for the army. Every student was required to rotate through a 12hr CQ shift, where consoles and laptops were allowed. Based on how many people bought GAEMS cases for the barracks and their shifts, I'm guessing this would be fairly popular with them
