I'm 55 and just starting. I'm very slow at picking it up, but I get totally lost in moving with my hoop and find myself laughing out loud. I LOVE HOOPING 💖

Accessing the flow state has been the closest experience to sleeping that I’ve found (that isn’t actually sleeping) that moment when you stop is literally a “wake up” and “snap” back into reality! It’s almost an out of body experience sometimes! The part of my brain that controls all the thoughts and anxiety quiets

Hoop dance flow to me is when I get lost in the moment, nothing else matters. Flowing from trick to trick and trying new tricks ( and not caring if I get them wrong and hit myself in the face ).

To me, when I find my flow I feel freedom. Like I was a caged bird and I'm being set free. Some days I get frustrated and try to focus on the tricks but when I just lose myself into the hoop and just let it all go. It's therapy for me.

fun fact about today... It has been exactly a year since I got my first hula hoop to try dancing with. I remember it being a crappy plastic one from the dollar store but it still worked (It lasted a week). My mom said it was stupid until I got her to hula hoop. Now I have a few good/better dance hoops and I have my first performance this summer! You were one of my inspirations!

Being lost in the own dance. No thinking-no trickcombinations, no sorrows. A natural high. Being in perfect balance with the world. Focused on your own world. No checking out others or wondering if you look stupid. No time feeling. A total bliss

I FINALLY UNLOCKED IT after about 5 months of hooping! Set your phone landscape mode using the BACK camera, play a song you groove with and just start recording. Before I was doing portrait with front facing camera and I was so concerned with what I looked like that I couldn't just focus on hooping. Go nuts. Don't worry about what you look like, just jam with your wonderful, circular dance partner. You aren't just showcasing tricks, move ya legs, wiggle your booty, bob your head. Let the music flow through you. I don't know very many fancy tricks but when you're moving all over and spinning left and right, it doesn't matter! Just have a blast!

oh my god!!!! this video has literally just helped me unlock a load of flow!! going out in the dark in my garden with headphones just dancing and not thinking about the precision of the moves just make me focus on the enjoyment of it and then i felt as if i was performing and that i was using my face and not stuck with the look of concentration oh wow thank you so much i'm gonna do this when i can in the evenings and flow like no one's watching!!!!

This helped me so much - I recently picked up my hoop again after a break from a few months and was feeling very discouraged (I’m still a beginner). This helped me re-center - thank you so much for everything you do!

I just started hooping a month ago... flow is something I am not comfortable with yet... so I started with a list of tricks I wanted a learn and that looked more my level. I practice those in order a few times a week when I have time- I’m a mom and work full time- I have noticed that the more I do the same tricks and in the same order it is becoming more of a “flow”. I’m excited to keep going and learning.

I've found my flow several times but only when doing lassoing. I got so involved that I was almost doing a back bend. This was even with a weighted bulky hoop. It felt really really good though. I'm getting ready to order my real dance hoops I just hope I get it right because there are just so many places and information out there. But as always you are the best! Thank you because these tips can be used in all areas of life too. Love you!! 💕 Chef Pam

Thank you so much for making this video Deanne, it really breaks down what "hoop dance" really is because I find so many hoopers mistake flow for something like perfection which needs to be sought, when it really is so much about exploration and enjoyment. Many do not even realise flow is a state of mind which can be applied not just to dance but also any exercise like yoga or running, or study or even relationships! You are an inspired soul, to whom I owe a lot to since learning hoop dance 8 months to teaching others also. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and joy with such passion and vigor :)

Hi Deanne , I had bought a loop after I saw a video of yours by chance, It looked so wonderful to be able to move so fluidly i would say . I started practising watching your videos and I love it . I had lost few months in-between due to lack of time, but now i have decided I want to get back to it . It makes me feels very happy and child like , carefree. Thank you for your videos. God Bless.

Biggest recommendation I would give for accessing flow is take magic mushrooms. First few times i ever hooped was on mushrooms and I accessed flow state so easily, incredible.

even microdosing helps me connect w my body and flow more! also; yoga 🧘♀️ stretching out can help those weird tight muscles and get you more fluid

I love your tips! Especially the 5th one.. I just realized the other day when watching my practice videos (this helps me alot watching my OWN practice sessions) that when I dropped the hoop I'd usually stop the video. I'd be like no! You were doing so good tho.. on videos where I dropped and kept going its neat to see the bounce back.. that it's not supposed to frustrate you.. like u said its proof that your challenging yourself and just try to smile when it happens and keep going because it really does have a better look to it that way!

Thank you so much Deanne for this video, it means so so much because this is one of my problem as in I don't feel as flow as I should. Mentally I focus too much on how I have to know a lot of tricks to look good, but this video gave me so much encouragement. THANK YOU!!

I have trouble accessing my flow, but you know what? I try not to let it bother me. I've reached it a few times in the ten months I've been hooping, and I know I'll reach it again, so no worries. If I were to try so hard to get into a flow state every time I hooped, I'd miss out on the enjoyment of my hooping journey in other ways. Right now, I'm enjoying drilling and memorizing specific flow sequences (flow sessions) and being able to perform these in both directions. There are many ways to get to the top of the mountain. Whether it be through a flow state or a specific choreography, the view from the top is beautiful.

Maybe dont try to flow just do it just let your body do the work and your mind relax like yoga but with a hoop

Flor me flow feels like I am dancing with myself in my own world. Only feeling into the music. Almost forgetting about the hoop... at least if flow catches me while waist hooping.

Hi Deanne, first of all, I'd like to say how helpful your videos have been to me. I am a teenager just starting hooping and I'm hoping to soon start to do some circus lessons . Except I'm unsure if I should use an adult size hoop.

Deanne Love Deanne are tickets still available for the biggest hoop workout? I'd really love to get there. If I can't make it can you suggest any other hoop events that you are involved in? I live in Northern NSW and would absolutely love to go to a hoop jam but there's none in my area :o You rock X
