When there are paternity results involved in these cases, it would be a better environment for the child, who is meeting their parent for the first time to do so in closed chambers similar to the way Judge Lauren Lake does things. It's very impersonal to have the parent and child meeting for the first time out in the open. It's so cold and awkward and the show needs to do better.

He was telling her that she was unfit to be a mother. She was probably afraid that he'd get the authorities involved, and possibly have their child adopted.
