I recently visited Idyllwild and stayed at the Bunkhouse motel. It wasn't as elaborate as this, but still felt themed because it was just generally outdoorsy, a little cabin, wood everything, plaid flannel sheets, etc. I'll have to check out Hicksville next time!

My parents had a water bed. It was one of the oddest things to sleep on, but it was very cool for hot summer nights.

I get the policy as well. They probably want to keep the atmosphere cozy, and with so many vintage items, they probably also want to make sure people use the rooms with a bit of care. You likely do, but not everyone looking for content will.
