I wonder if being a vet is harder then being a human doctor, knowledge wise. With a doctor, they just to need to know the human body or specific sections of it depending on ones specialty. Where as vets, they have to know the body of different animals.

It’s insanely harder to be a vet. Doctors would say the same thing. You need an incredibly high undergrad GPA just to get in to get school because of its difficulty and because there aren’t that many schools in the country. A girl I went to college with is in vet school now. She’s one of the smartest people I know and even she says it’s very stressful. You need to know the anatomy of the majority of animals on top of basic medical information. And really, they don’t get paid that much for all that they have to do.

As one poster already said, I think being a vet is waaaayyyy more difficult than being a human doctor. From a tiny mouse to a clydesdale horse, the animals Dr. Pol treats are so incredibly different in physiology, size, and medical needs on nearly every level. The knowledge level has to be out of the stratosphere. They animals can't tell you about how they're feeling. The vet has to use their experience to figure it out. Plus, on farm calls, they're not in a nice, comfortable indoor environment. It's hot, cold, wet, snowy, gross, smelly, uncooperative animals, unsanitary, etc. So I think a general vet has to have much more knowledge than a general doc. I respect both greatly, but I've gotta give the nod to the vet.

I don't want to judge, but it's something to consider when getting a pet. I left for two weeks with a detailed set of instructions for my bf and he would send me updates every couple of days. Also if he's not there, I have a place that boards hedgehogs with a woman who is knowledgeable. Poor baby shouldn't have gotten that bad. Also hedgies shouldn't be more than one in a cage, two if they are female
