One of the albums that genuinely changed how I think about music, I subconsciously compare everything to the contortionist nowadays As a side note, something that at least in my eyes makes the title track one of the best songs ever is the genuine simplicity of its songwriting. Most of parts i and ii is based on just a small handful of musical ideas. For instance, the intro to part i introduces the dotted 8ths motif with the delay pedal, which then translates to the open chords in the chorus being played in the dotted 8th rhythm, which then translates to the heavy chugs in part ii being dotted 8ths, as well as the open chord bits throughout part ii. Another neat idea is the tapping lead guitar lick towards the end of part i morphing into a minor key version of itself for the opening riff of part ii. Lyrically the album also gives off spiritual jumbo vibes on first listen, but is actually a metaphor for the relationship between a mother and a son, who was a good friend of the singer, Mike. In the early 2010s Mike's friend had died of an overdose while struggling to cope with the loss of his mother, and both albums the contortionist have put out since Mike's arrival in the band have been about this relationship. Language takes the metaphoric/symbolism approach and tries to make peace with their deaths, while Clairvoyant is much more lyrically direct, and is essentially all the things Mike wished he could've said to his friend while he still had the chance.

Dude awesome reaction! This album holds a special place for me so it's really cool to get an insight into the more theoretical side of these songs, If you are open to suggestions I would also highly recommend checking out the band that the singer Michael Lessard was in before joining this band Last Chance to Reason and their album Level 2. It's way more nerdy but it is a lot of fun!

guess the algo was finally good for something, cause it made me stumble upon this video. now I really wanna see you react to exoplanet. just be prepared for something considerably rougher/rawer and quite a bit more founded in deathcore with a good number of breakdowns, but there's still moments of astonishing beauty to be found on that record, particularly *that* sequence from "Flourish". you'll know which one when you hear it.

I love Aviations! If you couldn't tell, the little piano riff I kept playing in this video was from Outliers
