I appreciate your garage chaos and your real side of taking care of houseplants that get pests or diseases or just get neglected sometimes. Don’t feel bad about throwing out plants. Oh Ana…so sorry you are having to deal with this! I found a few mealybugs on one of my Hoyas this weekend so I took it outside, took it off its trellis and brought a big bowl with warmish water with insecticidal soap. I put the old soil in a bin to chuck it later and I inspected the roots for bugs. Rinsed off the roots and took my Hoya apart and made 5 plants. While I was looking for pots, I let them soak in my soapy mixture. Since I only saw a few, I decided this was probably the best thing to do at this point in time. I put them all back on trellises. It took quite of bit of time to get all that done and I fell behind on my plant chores. Oh well.

ooof I wish I did exact measurements, I usually just eyeball it but I fill the sprayer 95% full of water, 2 tbsp of alcohol, and 1 tsp of pure crop 1. you need very litte of the stuff.

Every summer i have plants outside my patio that have mealybug this year no outdoors plants to avoid any kind of pest. Yes! No mealybug this year yay😊so far i haven’t see any mealybug around my indoor plants i try cleaning once a month since I am paranoid my Hoya will get some kind of bugs.

It’s sad but burnout happens. I recently had a health issue and am struggling to care for my plants as well. Thinking about putting some on fb marketplace but I do enjoy most of them I just don’t have the energy anymore. I do love Hoya and have put those to my top and hope yours do well

Mealies are the worse. Doesn’t mean I don’t cringe when I see plants being thrown out. I hope you can salvage some of the Hoyas. But that being said I’ve thrown out some infested plants.

oh that was like a mini leca I found on amazon but I've switch substrates since. it is a PAIN when it falls over and rolls around on the floor.

I threw away my string of hearts. And today my string of spades. The top just gets thin and loses all its leaves, then the vines just dedicate and then the leaves get thin and lifeless. I watered it, it had a grow light. I’m over string of things. I’ve still got my string of pearls and my strings of turtles.

I had a bad infestation of mealy bugs and I used diatomaceous earth put it on the soil and all over back and front of leaves and cleaned my area really good and I haven’t seen anymore cross my fingers they are gone. Maybe this could help u too
