You can cycle from Dulwich in south London to Deptford in south east London, entirely on quiet streets and protected cycle lanes.
The route is 8.5km long (5.3 miles) and makes use of quiet streets and paths in Dulwich Park, Peckham Rye, and part of Cycleway 10.

Deptford was my home town. I still see Deptford as my home , my parent are still living there. I moved to Lee green now. I used to live in East Dulwich for a short period of time. Nice park in Dulwich

Another really good vid. Thanks for making it. Lewisham Council are looking at providing a new crossing at Trundleys road leading into Folkestone gardens, if the planning development along Surrey Canal happens. They've just got planning permission, so may happen in next few years. Lewisham Cyclists also pushing council to close Cold Blow Lane to through traffic and improve filter at Waller road.

That’s great to know - improving the filter at Waller Rd is one thing I should have mentioned but didn’t get a chance to. it’s a bit of a squeeze! Re: Coldblow Lane, it’s in this years Lewisham council LIP submission for TfL funding I believe (hopefully they include contraflow cycling in the scheme)

@@Londoncycleroutes yes Cold Blow Lane should be getting an experimental traffic order soon, closed to through motor traffic with access for those on foot and bike (both ways). Lewisham council also have ambitions for a new north south route via Telegraph hill but a bit of a way off.

Another great route, I'd love to see all the unfortunately placed chicanes you run into in almost every video dealt with by the councils. They're such an unecessary barrier a lot of the time!

The really annoying thing is councils are still installing them, and even retrofitting them on old existing shared foot/cycle ways. PITA for me as a (mostly) pedestrian who pulls a trolley around, a several times I've had cyclists come round corners to find me on theirside because of the chicane. I'm surprised we don't hear about more accidents because of them.

They’re awful, I think councils put them in as a misguided anti motorbike measure… but they don’t even work for that!

Thanks for sharing this route and I always love your videos for the info on council plans. I live in New Cross (you rode past my street in this video) and am very excited to hear about the developments for Cold Blow Lane! I also share your frustration with chicanes - especially that one you run into past Avonley Road heading to John Williams Close. It was recently installed and has caused me nothing but strife!

Oh man I didn’t realise it was a recent one - that’s terrible, you’d think councils would have learned by now. They create dangerous pinch points and are discriminatory!

Talking about unwelcome gradients, I’m wondering if anyone has recommendations for going from Crouch End or Hornsey in any direction except towards Wood Green or Turnpike Lane.

Thanks for these. You have inspired me to try to make similar videos since I have a few routes I've taken which are OK for cycling (such as Hackney central to Limehouse, not through the canal) that could be added. Since I've noticed you seem to add routes as they become good, I think my philosophy would be to find the "best" routes even when the quality is not great, prioritising safer but longer routes over faster more dangerous ones, i.e. a lot of meandering. Better to have a route that's not great than none at all I suppose. So your channel is for those who would cycle when it is a better option, I would try to cater to people who would cycle regardless but would like something less dangerous than a main road. A smaller audience for sure. I also am more lax with obeying the rules. For example, I've cycled from Stamford Hill to Wood Green and some of the route is as here but I go down the wrong way on the one way streets. They are pretty empty and it's easy to be cautious enough. Beats taking a large detour. I surmise you wouldn't advocate for this but I think people cycling should do what they can. If the roads aren't catering to them, and they aren't really endangering anyone, I don't see the problem in breaking the rules. For example, I have cycled through park paths where you aren't allowed to like Battersea Park. It is worth the almost zero probability I will suffer any consequences. It is essentially no different to cycling where it is allowed other than arbitrary rules. I am as cautious around pedestrians in both.
@Londoncycleroutes
@Londoncycleroutes 4 ай бұрын
That sounds cool I’ll have to check them out when you do them! On the rules thing, I try and stick to them especially when doing videos of you get comments full of people telling you you shouldn’t do this or that! (Also it helps to illustrate some of the problems with rules where they need amending eg cycle contraflows as you say) Since I’ve started doing the channel I’ve probably become a more compliant cyclist! Best of luck

@@Londoncycleroutes I agree that ideally the rules should be followed but I think because of the road design being so car centric sometimes legal cycling and safe/convenient cycling is in opposition.

Thanks for subscribing! I was in Edinburgh last year and was surprised by how many people I saw cycling - it’s so hilly but people seemed to go with the flow! As you say I didn’t see much in the way of cycle infrastructure. I love than pedestrianisation plan that was announced this week though, looks like a big step forward (though shame about the separate announcement about the loss of that cycle path)
