Holly I could never get the hang of crochet until I watched US videos on KZbin using US instructions which I found so much easier to follow! They make so much more sense to me! I'm from England by the way 😊

Just for the record you linked the January giveaway at the top of your video, not the February one. Not that I'm complaining cos the less people that see it gives me a better chance 😉 I find the uk terms so confusing, and I've had to frog and start again more than once because of that mixup. Thanks for the video!

Thank you for clarifying all that! As a beginner crocheter it can get somewhat confusing. :) btw I love, love your chunky scarf color coordinated with your outfit. You look so cute! I am so crazy about that type of yarn every time I see it while yarn shopping. I used to see them used as hair ribbons when I was growing up but I would really enjoy seeing some suggestions on how else to incorporate it into crochet. Would you happen to maybe consider a tutorial on that at some point in the future? :)

I only learnt to crochet 3 years ago and of course I started using patterns on-line. You would never believe the shannigans I went through. It didnt take long for it to become second nature to skim the instructions to find out whether it is a U.K. or American pattern and thus saves me from a huge amount of frogging : )

This is so helpful especially since I have taught a friend how to crochet and want to share some crochet videos with her - and I know the UK terminology would really confuse her. I definitely screen shot it and will be sharing that with her.

Great information. I had to look online a few months ago for one. I live in the UK and I learned to crochet mainly by US terminology, so when it came to following a UK pattern it turned out a lot bigger than it should have been

I was wondering if you might do a tutorial on the Neverending Wildflower flower crochet pattern. I know there are lots of flowers and several similar to this flower but the written pattern confuses me. Hope you consider it. Thank you. I really enjoy your videos too!

This was a great video. Sometimes the more experienced forget to mention these things. It is wonderful to see generations continuing to learn and teach these...crafts/arts (which were once vital necessity) It helps to know why the UK uses their stitch nomenclature, which happens to make some sense. The UK calls our sc a double because there are two loops on the hook that have to be worked off the hook before beginning the next stitch. With our US double there are 3 loops on the hook that have to be worked off the hook before starting the next stitch so the UK calls this a treble. You can see their nomenclature has reasoning behind it. But when you read through a pattern and something doesn't feel quite right, the source country should be checked first. Has anyone found that the UK also uses hook sizes we don't typically use? (Maybe a dumb thing for me to ask as I just turned my house upside down and cannot believe there is not an "H" hook to be found!) One good thing I have noticed is that with the introduction of e mail and internet pattern sharing and tutorials, many more projects are clearly marked as UK or US.
