Hey Steve Huff, I have question. I'm kinda wondering that what lens should I bought right now. 50mm or 35mm prime lens and I want to have to take a good picture portraits and landscapes so which one should I go.

So, how useful is the phase autofocus actually, is it as good at nikons? I read on soundimageplus that the new kit zoom is way inferior to the micro four third ones. What's your take on this?

I like my 5n, but after using a friend's DSLR, I really feel like it needs a built in viewfinder. Between these two, the 6 is a no brainer.

At the present time I'd go for the NEX-6 over the due to be replaced in the next 6 months NEX-7. It adds Phase Detection AF and a standard hot shoe to the older NEX-7's Contrast Detection AF which is no slouch in that dept. in its own right, but if you do mostly studio and portrait work where catching fast moving subjects isn't a priority, then I'd go for the 24MP sensor & better IQ that's on the NEX-7 which is likely to be discounted in price soon in anticipation of its coming replacement.

Has anyone here used these to shoot a lot of video? I have been eyeing these cameras for sometime, I know they take fantastic video, but I cannot decide which of the two to get. Any suggestions?

I'd get the Sigma 19mm and 30mm... thats all you really need for normal shooting. I have the SEL50f18...and it is awesome, however, I typically carry my NEX 6 with the 19mm and I'm a happy camper. All around excellent lens. The 30mm is great too. The 50mm is perfect for portaits and "bokahlicious" shots to really blurrr the background. Of course the 2.8 on the Sigma's deliver nice Bokeh shots as well!

I bought a NEX 5n for $280 from lensrentals in excellent condition:) The Nex 5R is $700!

24MP on a APS-C sensor really isn't very necessary, plus there are trade off on both purchases. You really aren't losing out too much with either purchase. If you already own the Nex 7, I wouldn't say to go out and buy the 6, but if you don't own either, the 6 would be an obvious recommendation, until the 7 has an upgrade.

Agree that the 16-50 is better than the 18-55...notably it's sharper. I kind of wish Sony would release a more affordable all-purpose zoom like an 18-135 or something like that. The 18-200 is still really expensive even though it has come down in price somewhat since it was released.

If you want high resolution look at the DP Sigma cameras. Way more MP and lower priced than the Nex 7.

I have handled both the 6 & 7 and they are not the same build quality. The 7 is a better build and better ergonomics. Still not convinced to buy either because of the lens selection.

Hey, do you know "photo SFX art" (google it)? On their website you will find a useful free video demonstrating how to create better pictures. It made it easier for Joe to make photos which have a jaw-dropping-effect when you take a look at them. It may help you as well.

i prefer to have revolution instead of evolution today :D gonna sell my NEX 5N and lenses, buy an RX1 and an OM-D with lenses for that so it covers various angles while the RX1 is the standard carry as much as possible camera :D oh wait I dont have that kind of money :'( gonna have to break the bank, too much want :D no, i'll just save my pennies, you think it's gonna drop in 6 months? I don't see reasons for that, maybe a deal will come up, i hope :D it's £1000 cheaper in USA i'll get it there

Lol you can't be serious. There are plenty of current cameras in the professional field not hitting 24MP. Ex. The full frame $6000 16MP Nikon D4, the ~$7000 18MP EOS-1D X You obviously don't come from a strong photographic background if you think 24MP is a necessity/rather then a option. Its a fact NEX 6 has better auto focus.

I prefer having significantly more resolution with the NEX-7 than a minor increase in high ISO performance. It's not even very significant. You are giving bad advice Steve Huff.
