A quick review of the Pulsar Talion XQ38 with ben from huntthenight.com.au

Really struggled with this device, and I think I struggled with it because it carries the brand name Pulsar, which means I expect a lot out of it. Personally speaking, this isn't a device I'm thrilled about, and I love my Pulsar devices!

I bought a thermion 2 xq38 instead of one of these. I've just removed it from rifle as image quality just isn't good enough unless foxy is at 100yds or less. Any further and its fuzzy and hard to identify. Great honest review from you 👏

Hi Ben ...I was toying with the idea of the talion but after looking through it at a show here in the UK I quickly changed my mind. Image quality is poor not the usual pulsar quality however I didn't mind the scroll wheel menu functions...my biggest gripe is the new image algorithm function . Going from normal,high to ultra just dont like this new feature I much prefer the old forest ,identification, rocks etc . My other gripe is magnification, I know this is because of lense size but 2.5 in a 384 x288 just doesn't cut it ...ok for a 640 unit but they should of put a 50 mm lense in these. What's worse is the xg version will be 2 X mag 😡 just a usable mag unless your 30m away from a target. Overall a disappointing product. I bought the Senopex A5 in the end from Ian blackwood at blackwood outdoors now these are something else especially the A7 and S10 models 👌

Wow! A few comments from my side, and I've had mine for a while. I love the ergonomics of this unit, including the new control wheel. Much better than the Thermion in my opinion. In terms of quality image, it is what it is. It's low/mid-priced thermal and you expect a high-end quality thermal image? The Talion was NOT intended to do any fox hunting, there are other devices for that. Or you have to wait for the version with the 640x sensor. I guess you will fail a review if you review it with other intentions than it was designed for. I didn't have any issues with the battery during recoil, never thought about the "in-line" mounting but understand what you say. Except it hasn't been an issue...Did you shoot yours, or did you invent a problem that's not there?

So about the battery system, if you re watch it I’ve said it’s not as issue with this device due to it not being spring loaded, it’s a good design for what it does. Allows a larger removable battery than the typical cr123 batteries that go in the side and don’t last too long. I agree it’s not intended for fox hunting, but there’s some very vocal UK retailers saying it would be great for fox hunting and it’s not. The 640 version would be even worse as it’ll have even less base magnification. You’re free to like the new control wheel, just as I’m free not to like it. The overall image quality is in my opinion not even close to other units on the market at the same kind of price point and focal length. I am not expecting a high end unit, I was just expecting something better because it had the Pulsar brand. If it had the ATN brand I’d probably be happy with it. I think you missed the point of what I was trying to say.

@@HuntTheNight English is not my first language, so perhaps some is lost in translation. I've seen dealers try to market snow boots for running, so I'm not surprised. If the customer says he only has 2500 to spend they will try to find a solution, especially if they have it on stock. I was just surprised about the control wheel, as I always let as many people as possible help me review things to get inputs I might be blind to, and the control wheel got really good feedback. I would like this control wheel in combination with the round menu system on the Krypton/Proton units, I think it would work well.

@@NightVisionViking I actually thought the control wheel was going to be great, I just find it incredibly uncomfortable when my eye is up to it and I'm behind the rifle. I much prefer it on the turret like the Thermion, it allows me to maintain a better firing stance in case I want to take a quick shot.

@@aceprecision1681 It's still the comment section - I thought it was intended to comment on the Video. Some even say the Krypton is much worse than the CH50V2... Some think exactly the other way around. I can't see no issue with the Talion either.. But I'm in Europe, the Talion is cheap for what it is and anyone thinking this is a Thermion, but cheaper, is simply wrong. Not that Ben stated that, but maybe some just think the Talion is something that it isn't.

@@StachiBCNR33 100% right mate. People are marketing and selling the Talion as something it isn't. I think they're doing it because Pulsar is the easiest brand on the market to sell due to their excellent high-quality devices, and this is cheap so it hits a lot of budget points. I just think there's much better options in its price bracket from other manufacturers that are a little harder to sell as they don't have the name recognition.

I know there's a lot of people out there that think whatever pulsar makes in the price bracket they make it that it's the best. This isn't the best in its price bracket by far, but there's a lot of reviewers creaming their pants over it
