Yeah you definitely should legitimize a sequels existence by adding or unveiling more to the plot. To just present a movie that rehashes old events is like a hamster on a wheel, even if it's entertaining. A sequel should always bring more story to the table. Otherwise, it appears like a cash grab.

5:36 slight spin on this that already exists if you haven't seen it, there's a mini series from 2008 called 'Dead Set' where a zombie outbreak happens during a season of Big Brother. Sort of like what you wanted, a group of people who are cut off from the world because of the show trying to figure out what's happening

*SPOILER* Honestly, I liked how subtle the characterisation of Joseph Quinn's character is. He's wearing this big, ill-fitting suit in the big city, saying that he's studying law because it's what he's SUPPOSED to do. Then, at the end of the film, we discover that he's secretly a talented magician with great confidence on stage. I like that the film never explicity states this, but we can infer that he's always wanted to be a magician but his family pressured him to America to pursue a steady career as a lawyer. He feels very lost in his life, and now that he has recognised the apocalypse is beginning, he feels that all paths for him are coming to an dead end. This is why he just decides to join Sam in her simple quest for some pizza. (Btw, props to my girlfriend who pretty much pointed this all out to me.)

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm surprised that Stuckmann, the number one fan of Alien, wants to know more about the purpose of these invading aliens. What did the alien want in the Alien movies? We assumed it was like a shark: It moves, it eats, and it reproduces. What is the motivation of a regular ant? I'm sure they have one, but we don't need to know it to understand the problem of them infesting your house. Threats in nature don't need a purpose. The drama comes from how this problem affects the characters beyond the primal instinct to stay alive.
@eyespy3001
@eyespy3001 3 ай бұрын
I mean, you kind of need to know what the ants in your house are going after in order to stop the infestation. Carpenter ants are eating your wood floors. Regular ants are going after the blueberry that fell behind your stove. If you don’t deal with those sources, you’re just going to keep getting ants.

For me, an alien in space wanting to kill you is easier to roll with than aliens invading earth (their intention is more interesting because it can be more than just killing). Having two previous movies creating the mystery surrounding the creatures and their invasion also creates an expectation of a reveal of at least something when this movie takes place at the beginning. It being a third movie of a franchise also adds to the expectation. I still enjoyed it, but I couldn't help wanting to know more.

@@cokemachine62590 Sure. Agreed. However, if you make a _series_ of movies set in the same universe, in the same timeline, at some point, retreading the same plot is going to get REALLY boring. That’s why the Predator series hasn’t really produced anything good after the second movie.

Writers were unrealistic. People don't panic and then repeatedly scream: "we're all gonna die!" when our secondary character had to cover his mouth. Or when she was under a car and a mab grabbed her leg... and begged for help. What?! Unrealistic and out of touch with how strangers interact. Haha and the machine turning on loudly.. so the male nurse goes and turns it off and then... his shirt rips. Those writers, man

You've clearly never been in an emergency situation or had to deal with somebody experiencing a panic attack or psychotic episode. When under enough stress, there are plenty of people who ABSOLUTELY would scream and freak out in that situation. Drowning people will grab onto their rescuers and force their heads underwater despite that being bad for them as well. People who are panicking do weird and nonsensical shit ALL the time

The whole movie is filled with contradictions. Like manic and violent librarians the aliens try to make people be quiet, but they can do nothing about wind, waves, storms, rain, waterfalls, birds, dogs, cows, sheep, etc. Earth is very noisy, but it’s just people they resent? And how about their entry to Earth, roaring and smashing and crashing into the atmosphere. It’s a wonder they don’t all wear earmuffs.

Chris! Do an honest review on this garbage of a movie! You know it was not good lol it was a total departure from the other movies and the story line about getting crusty, dusty pizza and a cat that never makes a sound is just ridiculous! Also, she gets knocked unconscious and suddenly everyone just figured out you have to be quiet! Why did they skip the learning curve? We learned nothing new and I can feel the director’s arrogance through the screen! Everyone was pissed at my theater and i struggled to keep my eyes open the entire time. It could’ve been a short film at a film festival. Had no business being attached to a quiet place.

Some time, replay the scene in Quite Place Part Two where the Abbot family enters the foundry. In the smokestack of said foundry is an alien chopping into pieces, and burning. I saw this last night and I disagree with Chris on this. It is my favorite movie of the three and I found the characters to be even more emotionally compelling than the characters presented in the first two films. Also I felt the movie presented answers to the questions surrounding the motivation of the creatures and especially questions surrounding the man Chris refers to, even if the answers aren't 100% certain. I really love the film Pig, and like Pig this movie also moved me to tears (which I was not expecting out of an installment from A Quiet Place!) I would highly recommend this film and it is absolutely worth seeing in a theater in my opinion.

Din really feel the motivation of moving around the city without any clue. Any sensible person would get essentials and stay in! No matter what your going through, you definitely dont want to be wandering around with city with the chance of dying like this at any second. The 2nd male character introduction was so stupid. People keep saying this, but it DID meow, several times. It meowed and scratched at the door of the theater when it ran away from Lupita Nyongo and the monster was outside, that's what drew the monster's attention. And at the end when it was in the water with the guy swimming to the boat there were definitely meowing sound effects. They weren't super loud yowling, but there were definitely little meows over the music and water.

*SPOILERS* Having just gotten out of the movie, I’m going to disagree with your point on Joseph Quinn’s character. His parents being overseas is only a small part of it. During the scene in Sam’s apartment, he also mentions going to NYC for law school and says something along the lines of “It’s the one thing I was meant to do,” which implies that either he dedicated his whole life to it, or he comes from a family of lawyers. When it’s ripped away from him in seconds, he feels like he has nothing left to live for until stumbling upon Frodo by pure happenstance. I found his journey of finding reasons to keep going, even during the end of the world, really resonant.

I actually read that line, the "it's the one thing I was meant to do" line as meaning he's been a screw up his whole life, and this is the one and only thing he was supposed to do and now it's down the drain. I think either way, his character has a bit more depth and I enjoyed Quinn's performance.

Question for all: Did anyone else feel frustrated with the inconsistency of how sensitive the monsters were to sound? For example when the nurse manages to successfully turn of the generator with no monsters showing up, but then his shirt rips and it’s slashing time? Or in the final chase scene when Frodo is being carried down the pier by his butler, the creatures hear a can rattling over the sound of car alarms and glass and metal getting smashed and all of them turn and bolt towards them? I also noticed immediately that creatures seemingly don’t react at all to sounds caused by their own kind, which would be fine if it was explained but it is never addressed

Nothing wrong with wanting to know more about the creatures but the unknown is what makes it scary and unnerving. Knowing to much about them takes away the mystery of them. Look at the Aliens franchise, it was horrible when they gave us the backstory of Xenos. To me i like the “ if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” mentality. This movie is a solid prequel that’s falls just a tad below the other ones. They played it safe and kept what works. I think it should be one more to where it’s still has the same tone but have it more action packed. In other words we get the last movie to be what Aliens was to Aliens. We get to see the military learn their weakness and fightback while still maintaining the horror elements…..like Aliens.
