Hey Austin, saw the movie last night and while I was watching it for the first half I definitely was comparing lupita nyongo’s character to the family, but then I thought about it differently and it made the movie much more emotionally resonant. The main character of this movie does not want to survive and will not survive, what she wants is to feel connected to her home and her family again before she dies. I found that super fresh and emotional because any character that wanted to survive it would’ve been too similar to the family from the first two. Interested what your thoughts are on this take.

Absolutely agree, I think in the beginning she hates her finite mortality, who wouldn’t? And given everything she is going through, she wants to feel close to what her life used to be and who she was. Through the journey we see her reconnecting with herself despite the chaos around her, ultimately coming to terms with her mortality. I felt the heavy emotions right from the start, but I was moved to tears by the end!

The downtime in the movie was so much less entertaining than in the first two. The two main characters are just wandering around. Then they brought in a huge variant and wasted it.

I must have seen a different movie because I thought it was excellent. Really strong chemistry between the two leads. Really intense moments and a wonderful story. Probably my fav of the series

I wonder if there may be an audience disconnect based on age. I watched it yesterday and was very emotional. I really connected with Lupita Nyong’o’s character Sam. I found it more moving than the first two. I’m in my 20s and have no kids, so maybe it’s why resonated with it more. I found the entire evaluation of life given the circumstances so profound.

We literally see a soldier in the beginning of the movie being torn apart really easily. I think the Death Angels just killed whoever tried to confront them

What bothered me was if the military figured out they're attracted by noise why didn't they continue to give directions over the loudspeaker on the helicopter to leur the creatures away from where the people were being directed towards? Or set up repeating noise in a stadium to draw the creatures in to them shoot or bomb them. Also, why did they show us the creatures nest where they're getting sustenance and eating those egg things and then just never give us more info on that? Also I liked how in the tunnel they show one of the creatures going into like a stasis while the rain is going. Almost resting because it can't pinpoint any particular noise and waiting until it can hear something.

I have a a quiet Cat and I could relate a lot to the cat in the movie, I liked the movie a lot and I think it was clever to write a character such as Lupita's one in which made sense just to go where she wanted to go no matter what. It would've been difficult to buy if it was another character which we've seen in a ton of horror movies, people doing stupid shit just for no reason. She got what she wanted and she is at peace with her to leave this world without any regrets.

I felt the movie tried to force me to care for charecters I didn’t care about, it felt extnrely cliche, predictable and wayyyyyy too contained for a quiet place DAY ONE!!! It feels like a failed cloverfield of sorts and cloverfield done it right!!!! For a day one movie, and the marketing behind it, you’re gonna have to have at least some sort of military insight like world war z or as I said, cloverfield! But this was too contained for its own good. The worst part was the fact that the movie just tried to force me to like and care and cry for charecters that I simply did not care about. I felt violated in a way hahah. LOVE THESE POOR PEOPLE NOW! None of it was earned, especially for a film that is pretty short. Finally it felt like it ended way too soon, it ended half way through the film! Ok he’s on the boat now!! What next? What’s happening on the other side?? I thought these things landed everywhere? It all just makes no sense! Honestly, it’s one of the worst films of the year so far for me 😢

Wow this perspective is very interesting because from my experience and a lot of other reviewers the character study aspect was a really stand out aspect of the film, and having a cat in an end of the world scenario instead of a dog is nice twist

I thought the movie was pretty good. The visual effects and the action scenes were excellent. Some parts of the movie the pacing was kind of slow. Lupita was her excellent self as she always is in her films. I was pleasantly surprised by Joseph Quinn’s performance. He was excellent! After Stranger Things & this film, I think he can be the next big movie star. And the cat! That is one brave cat! It was kind of hard to hear when they were whispering to each other though . But all in all, it was a good time at the movies just really glad it was only a little more than 90 minutes.

Not as good as the first, but still pretty good! Lupita Nyong’o is a phenomenal actress and she is so beautiful. And (spoiler!!!) I’m so glad the cat lived, such a cute cat! I’ll give this movie a 7.5/10 in my opinion And another spoiler: For anyone saying that all the main character cared about was pizza, that was because she had terminal cancer. She knew she was gonna die either way. Whether it was from the cancer or the creatures. If it wasn’t from the creatures, the cancer would have still killed her. That’s what makes the story powerful and emotional. People complaining just didn’t 100% pay full attention to the movie because it is so much more than just wanting pizza, she had a reason behind it. Anyways, since she knew she was dying, there was nothing wrong with the fact that she wanted pizza. Plus it was the pizza place that brought back memories with her dad that passed away. Another good reason she wanted that pizza. Also Lupita Nyong’o did an incredible job in this movie. Extremely talented actress

I so completely agree with you Austin. I literally kept saying, I just don’t care. I wanted to care. I wanted to like these characters. I didn’t care for the second film either, for the same reason. Not much else going on other than going around, trying to be quiet, and not alert the monsters. Total snooze fest for me personally. Really liked the first where they maximized this premise. And I was disappointed that they didn’t do more with the setting. I thought this could have been Cloverfield meets a Quiet Place, and I heard this film was so emotional , so I was really let down by the story and characters. The cat is the one element of the film I did like.

I think the way the characters in this one managed to somehow figure out that staying silent is the way to survive the alien monsters is ridiculously fast. Its as if they knew very quickly they must not make any noise. I'd love to see more of how men in NY reacted at first and slowly learn these creatures have this weakness.

I honestly thought it was decent I didn't expect much from a movie called Day 1, On tbe real i felt like the idea of the cat, was likely meant to serve as a sense of "hope" if that makes sense Dogs are usually loud, they bark even by instincr bu the mere sight of weirdos or loud noises, so ancat is usually silent makes sense I was also sorta connected with the characters as i was kind of wondering if they live, what'll happen to them next

Every sensible human being would know that having the cat around you you would not survive longer than 2 seconds in this universe. So to have the cat survived until the end is just BS. Literally killing the concept of this story. I'd love to see more of what actually happened to those 10 out of 12 boats that failed to flee the port (a clear missed opportunity in storytelling). And to have the main protagonist killed off at the very end is also kinda wacked - it makes you think like hey why do I even need to care about her if you would kill her off at the end?
