It is bittersweet to listen to this song today. The rustic soundscape, that sarangi interlude, that sunset-sari visual, the effortlessness in Gracy Singh’s acting, the flow of the narrative even in a song - We liked all of this when it first came out, but also took it for granted back then. We probably appreciate it a lot more now, because nothing like it exists in Bollywood anymore. The last vestiges are guarded by people like Gowariker, Rahman, Bhansali, Bhardwaj, Gulzar, and only a few others. We evolved as a society but lost a part of our identity. Our art evolved to become more “world-class,” but maybe the world needed to evolve to understand our art in the first place, rather than the other way round.

Everything is so terrific in this song. Beautiful lyrics, excellent music, talented singers, brilliant choreography, awesome location, great scenery, lovely people including Aamir Khan, Gracy Singh and Rachel Shelley, etc. I am an Indian National and a previous British Resident. I love both the cultures. Amazing representation of both of these wonderful cultures. Not sure why this legendary movie missed the Oscars. Hats off to all, who were part of this movie.
