Questions: (there are many lol 😅) 1. How long did it take to train Atlas to use the doggy treadmill? Does he like it/is it fairly easy to get him to do the treadmill when there's bad weather or is it just an activity he tolerates, and he would rather go outside (maybe still in bad weather lol)? 2. Is Atlas allowed on furniture in your home? What factors led you to that decision? 3. Do you have Atlas interact with other dogs "off duty" in a dog park or pet friendly store, etc.? I was thinking about getting a service dog and wondering how to balance their need for socialization and learning how to communicate with other dogs (like Atlas being able to read another dog while on duty telling him, don't get close to me, so Atlas can give him more space) and not develop fear of other dogs from lack of dog contact or be unable to communicate and understand what other dogs are trying to communicate with him. 4. Is Atlas your first dog? 5. Did you use a professional trainer for any part of Atlas's training? 6. When Atlas was not ready for public access, what did you do with Atlas if you had to leave for an extended amount of time like going on vacation for several days or being away for 8 hours or more for work/school? 7. How do you balance Atlas's training needs, his off duty needs (like play time), work/ school, and you just living your life? Do you have a schedule or system to help make sure it stays mostly balanced? 8. Do you let Atlas greet as many people he wants while off duty or not training? Just wondering if you do, and if it causes confusion for him knowing when it is okay or not okay to say hi to people. I was thinking about getting a service dog and wondering how to balance their need for human attention and not develop fear of strangers from lack of stranger human contact. 9. Oddly specific question: In the airport, sometimes there's a security dog that sniffs you for contraband (and every person) , so just wondering if this has ever happened to you while you were with Atlas, and what the dog to dog interaction was like.

hey violet! I am still waiting and hoping that you post again. My service dog that I was telling you about is doing so much better and now I am just trying to get her out of being focused on other things outside instead of me. Do you have any tips????

Q&A question: im planning on getting a puppy to train to be my service dog but im really nervous, what were some things you were nervous about before you got atlas?
@aurorarucker41443 ай бұрын
I’ve heard a person say that it’s the owners fault if I hit the dog with my cart, he shouldn’t have been there if he’s so well behaved. Made my blood boil. If you’re not paying attention to where you’re going to can hit a service dog, short person or a child, either way it will not being just who got hits faulty.
@helperpupatlas73773 ай бұрын
That’s ridiculous that person said that! Is the service dog just not supposed to take up space at all in that persons mind? Well behaved or no they’re a living being that takes space. Atlas is trained to be in a tight heel, but that still only does so much when everyone decides to not pay attention that day. I swear some days the public is just all on the same page of not paying attention to things outside of themselves. Do you ever get that feeling some days too? Also thank you for watching our videos!❤️🥹

When are you going to post again. I love your videos so much. I have a pitt bull that I need to train for a ptsd and panic attack dog. Watching your videos make me realize how much work that I need to put into my dog. PLEASE POST AGAIN

Aww thank you so much!! I’m getting really really close to posting again. I’ve been feeling the need and want to again, it’s just I’ve been trying to only survive these past couple months and that’s why I stopped posting. But I’m coming to realize I’m going to be in survival mode regardless. I really REALLY appreciate your comment cause it helps me see just how important the videos are and that they really do help people. Which is the whole reason I made the channel to begin with. I will be posting again, do not worry! I have not quit KZbin❤️❤️❤️

@@helperpupatlas7377 I need to know how I can train my pup to be a ptsd dog
@helperpupatlas73773 ай бұрын
The answer to this type of question is not easy or clear cut to answer unfortunately. It all depends on what you need. In terms of ptsd dog the proper label would be a psychiatric service dog. You need to find out what tasks you need your dog to perform to help you with your ptsd. The tasks and training of a service dog are what make it a service dog. For example Atlas is a multipurpose service dog for medical alert and response and psychiatric alert and response. Some tasks he provides me for psychiatric are crowd control, deep pressure therapy, behavior interruptions, alerts to oncoming anxiety and overwhelming feelings and panic attacks, etc to name a few. You need to do research on psychiatric service dog tasks, what and how exactly those tasks will help you to mitigate your disability and how to train your dog those tasks. When you do research steer clear of scams. There are no registrations or certifications for service dogs in the United States, they are ALL scams. On that same note research the ADA (American disability act) on their laws about service dogs. Another big part of service dog training is public access (being able to go into all public settings), basic and advanced obedience training. Start slow at home and slowly work your way into pet friendly places. Working step by step into places, like starting in the parking lot, working your way up to outside the front door, working your way to inside the front door, working into a couple feet of the store for a couple minutes and continually building on the distance into the store and the amount of time. Teaching heel, teaching how to reliably listen, ignoring distractions and other dogs, working through novel things they may not see all the time, etc. Like I said go slow at your dogs pace and make sure things are not stressful and over their threshold for stress. If you have to, enlist the help of a trainer, but there are a lot of helpful resources on KZbin and online if you know where to look. Part of being a service dog is the dog needs to be under your control at all times. Meaning they cannot be unruly or distracting and they need to listen to you at all times. Training for public access is going to be the harder and longer part of your training process. You need to just go slowly and don’t push your dog and don’t bring your dog directly into a non-pet friendly store like a grocery store when they are not ready and legally have no task that they have down reliably. Atlas did not go into his first non-pet friendly environment until he was 8 months into his training. And this was after he had at least one task and had a solid understanding of heeling and all his obedience under him as well as reliably looked to me in distracting moments as well as reliably performing these behaviors and that task in a pet friendly environment. I know this is a lot, but like I said it is not clear cut and it’s not an easy, short answer. I hope this helps you in some way and I hope I’ve helped you learn a couple things about service dogs and proper labels, etc. as well. If there’s anything else in the future you have a question about please don’t be afraid to ask me! I know how hard and stressful training can be! I plan on filming the Q&A i promised on my last video, so if you have anything you want me to answer when I make that please feel free! Best of luck to you and your pup ❤️✨🦮🐕🦺

@@helperpupatlas7377 thank you so much. please shout me out in one of you videos. another thing is I am 12 years old and deal with a lot of issues that i was telling you about. I was wondering if there is a way even at 12 years old to do this. The tasks that I want her to perform is dpt, and I want to be able to bring her into any kind of buildings that allow service dogs.

Some questions for the q&a if it’s not too late! 1. could you explain how you use the beep on the e collar for recall? I’ve been trying to do the same with my dog but i’d like to hear your process on it. 2. what are atlas’s favorite treats? favorite toys? 3. Are there any other tasks you’re planning on teaching him? 4. What tasks or training do you want to improve on with him?
