No one is allowed to borrow a book from the Vatican Library except the pope. And no wonder: the archive holds some of the oldest and most precious works of art and treasure known to man. Morley Safer and "60 Minutes" cameras get to see the best of the best.

Nostalgic memories youre missing a major principle that all scientists and religious abide by. Science and religion don’t contradicted each other. They’re two majorly different things. One attempts to explain natural world while one attempts to explain the supernatural world. Example: the Catholic churches official stance is that the theory of evaluation is true and to go against that os to go against the church. Also what war? The crusades? When christian warrior monks were formed to protect pilgrims? The only thing id say that yeah blood shed got outta hand was the Spanish Inquisition. Aside from that all worlds wars have been fought over resources, money, and oil because we’re greedy. What teaches us to not be greedy? Oh yeah. Religion. Killing is a human thing not a godly thing. Its our flaw to bear not God’s. Dont let the actions of the wicked represent the views of the many. And if you do hate religion strictly for its blood shed why not go attack islamic videos.

I've read that they were able to save most of them. Like Derek Donaldson said, they were gone before the fire. The only place that sources consistently name is Syria. There is a place in Syria where anyone who's aware that they're there is able to read them. You are able to hand copy any of them, but they don't leave the building. That was from an old book that I read during my occult phase. But more than one book named Syria. I was gonna follow up with more research, but I lost interest.

As a library director, I find it difficult to believe that no one knows the full contents of what’s in that library. That’s what librarians do: create lists, finding aids, and databases to document the holdings of a library. Card catalogs are obsolete but there must be digital files. Why say something do preposterous? Having said that, I’d love to spend a day exploring that library. Lots of stolen history there!

I think what they were saying is it is impossible for one or even many people working there to know everything that is in there. I'm sure they have old fashioned card catalogs and modern digital files. And to be honest, I don't think the Vatican was all that concerned with writing down a list of everything in there. That probably only came about in the early 1900's and possibly, to a fuller extent, starting around the 1980's.

The library belongs to the Catholic church and it's people. What you said is illogical. Free speech does not mean you can go into any place and do what you want. You can find what you want in an atheist building. Anything can be written down. That doesn't mean it is all true. The Vatican holds the original writings of the Apostles. Catholicism is an Apostolic Churc, founded by the Apostles on the order of Jesus the Christ.

[7]And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it. [8]Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children: [9]But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments. [10]For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me. [11]Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know. [12]Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail. [13]Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.

Who else noticed the fake images of caucasian bible characters?
@danebarnes3325
@danebarnes3325 4 жыл бұрын
Well, yes. Because these manuscripts were written between 500-1000 years ago based on which one you're looking at, when most people were illiterate and most people didn't travel. That doesn't make them 'racist'. It just means more people were less culturally informed than we are now. The manuscript illustrations also depict biblical characters wearing period medieval clothing. That doesn't mean they were trying to white-wash history though. It simply means that the scriptoriums where these manuscript copies of the Bible were made were designed to be relatable to the people of their surrounding land. That's why manuscript illustrations began - because most people were illiterate. And when you live in a place and time where globalism hasn't occured and most people in Europe are Caucasian - hey guess what - the people are probably going to look Caucasian. And we also have to understand that what these manuscripts are trying to export in art isn't just a narrative, but also symbolism. Symbols that people can relate to in understanding, so often they used symbols that were predominate in their culture. For example, there are depictions of Goliath looking straight-up like a Norman Knight. Though it is interesting to mention that in cultures that did have closer contact with the Near-East, such as Kingdoms on the Iberian Peninsula during the Reconquista or Byzantine Icons - the figures do appear much more semetic and near-eastern. I don't think we, as people who live in an age of globalism, can really shame people living in the 11th Century for not being more multicultural when most western Europeans wouldn't have had much opportunity to meet non-Europeans unless they were Pilgrims or went on Crusade. And that wasn't exactly an opportunity like Study Abroad is today. Most people would have to sell everything they owned and risk death many times over to achieve that. Of-course to do such a thing today would be in poor taste and would be inaccurate. But this was a thousand years ago, when most people couldn't even read. Come on now.

Most of them are in Latin so they should be translated into English or another language. They did. You can find the translations online...

Considering so much of the treasures were pillaged, stolen from different countries and peoples, like the Jewish communities who were often persecuted by the Church, it behooves the Vatican to at least offer to sell (or return outright) the manuscripts to their rightful owners. If sold, they would have much more money they can use for charity and make right the many wrongs. Does not the Bible teach to return the stolen objects to the owner? All theCatholic private-schools which closed down for lack of funds could have remained open and funded instead of the Vatican sitting on hundreds of millions of dollars of other people’s belongings.
