You remind me sooooo much of my daddy who passed away 11 years ago! He was very in touch with nature. Wild animals would just come up to him. He had a gentle spirit and loved good food, friends and family. He would literally give someone the shirt off his back if he thought they needed it. I’m crying as I write this. Also, this friend of his isn't an Eagle folks. It's a Cinereous Vulture or Eurasian Black Vulture. They are HUGE birds too say the least. Measuring nearly 4ft in body length with a wingspan of 10ft. Weighing up to 30lbs. They are some of the largest and heaviest raptors in the world. I have 30yrs experience in the avian field having worked "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey. And i saw and studied many of these birds on my trips to Armenia which is my background. The video doesn't do this bird justice in terms of how strong and HUGE they truly are. Great friend to have though in the mountains...:)

In my little street in a small PA town, we have a flock of about 30-50 black vultures living in the trees. These are abit scarier than my birds.

I did think it looked odd for an eagle but just went along with the title of the video. Was amazed at how unafraid it was but maybe it's not used to seeing humans in that area so hasn't learned to be afraid of them? Wonderful video!

This was a wonderful video. What a special treat it must have been for him. I’ve spent a great deal of time alone in the American wilderness, up to six-weeks on numerous occasions; mostly snow camping. I didn’t know anyone who had the time, gear, or experience to spend that much time camping, so I camped alone. I’ve had many bears and one mountain lion come into my camp while I was there; they didn’t pay much attention to me, then moved off without incident. However, on numerous occasions, I did have deer come close to my camp to listen to my guitar music. Twice in my life, I slept on the trail and woke up with dear sleeping all around me; that was a dangerous situation, when I moved, it startled them, and they scattered in every direction including over the top of me. I’m not a hunter, I don’t kill animals, and I think the animals somehow know that. (In my strong opinion, when you go into the wilderness, you are entering their home and should respect them as you would going into someone’s house.) I’m not against hunting (except trophy hunters,) I just don’t like killing anything I came to visit. I would have loved to have the experience of that eagle visiting me. Unfortunately, I am old and unable to camp anymore, but I have fond memories of my younger years…

Mark, you are a man after my own feelings. I have had as much pleasure camping in winter as other times of the year and I would go out with one of my dogs and camp just for the sheer pleasure of the quiet of the woods and all that lived there. Winter is a very quiet time to be out camping, the snow acts as a buffer, an insulator of sound, and I enjoyed watching my Labrador retrievers having fun in the snow and sometimes playing with a squirrel or maybe a deer on the trails. I am now 79 and, like you, I only camp in my memories and it is so good for the soul to watch another outdoorsman enjoy all of those things which had drawn me to the woods when all of my friends were more comfortable indoors. My dad taught me most of what kept me alive and healthy when out where you were the only human in miles around. I grew up in a rather medium income family so we did not have all of the "goodies" which others, who could afford more, took pleasure in owning but I was always thankful for my dad's teaching me how enjoy the things in my life which were free and added so much more to a person's life than any store-bought items one could own. He also taught me to hunt but in a mindset of need and of responsibility to the wildlife from which we took some of our food each winter. After my stint in the military during the mid-60's, I gave up hunting in favor of enjoying the natural beauty of the outdoors and I started "hunting" with a camera. Now I have a lasting record of my times in the woods, be it during a few summers when I guided wilderness canoe trips in the Quetico in SW Ontario, or simply taking a trip into the woods or mountains with no particular place to go or things to see. At the end of my journey on this planet, I will move on knowing what real unadulterated pleasure is all about, in using the outdoors as my place to play and enjoy my life.

You're bringing back memories of my Father and I backpacking the Sierras - He started me out when I was around 12 and grown to love the Mountains and Streams of the Sierras, fishing and hiking--This was a very relaxing video to watch but I kept asking myself, How did he get all that stuff up there? -- Horses?-- I'm in my 70's now so camping means Car Camping but it is still nice.
