there was a thoughtful comment here about the final slap being the catharsis (can’t see it now). Was glad to read it. It’s the ending that we all want- to feel like David and Benji are both going to change and be changed by each other. And David does change but his change doesn’t work the way both we and he want it to. It’s always a risky thing to deny the audience what they want, but when it’s done in a truthful way like this it can be beautiful and heartbreaking.
