I don't know what the name of the cardmaking technique...but a quilt designer I know calls this method "Improvisation". Instead of a sewing random pieces of fabric...she separates scraps into colors Or themes...makes a large piece them cuts it to a shape to integrate into a larger project. It's a great way to use up scraps. Your card works so beautifully! I am loathe to throw away scraps of paper and fabric, so this is a marvelous way to take care of my paper stash. Thank you Natasha...Have a great day!!🌞❤

So fun! Great technique when you don’t necessarily feel like making a card but want to use up scraps and do something creative. Then you’ll have all these cool backgrounds to use for future cards. Thanks so much Natasha!

Fantastic scrap-buster. Perfect way, as you say, to use up the last little bits of coordinating papers. I hate waste, too. The technique is very reminiscent of quilting. I think it would be called crazy quilt, iris or log-cabin.

So much freedom in letting go of the covered up pieces of scrap. You just kept on layering and I cannot figure out how you gave yourself permission to do that. I am so OCD and a child of depression era parents.. but I am going to go for it! You inspire me! I think the vellum and black sentiment was the topping on the sunday!

This is taken from quilting. It's a crazy quilt pattern that uses up scraps of fabric to make a quilt block on a foundation piece of either paper or muslin. The squares are then sewn together and backed. Embroidery is added to edges if done by hand to finish the edges of fabric. This was very popular during Victorian times and used velvet fabrics a lot!

Lovely card! The technique looks like an Iris (Fold) Card- the name comes from the fact it looks like the iris of a camera. I first saw it from Dutch card makers some 20 years ago, when they would make them from the tea packet papers, but they've also made them with the patterned paper from the inside of envelopes. Love this take on it- what a great and easy way to use up scraps! Thanks for sharing!
