My son was like Azalea being slow to get ready so I did this, I got myself ready without saying a word to him. He knew he had to get up and get ready but it was my frustration with his not being on time or quicker to get ready for the day that he saw frustrated me. One morning I decided to ignore trying to pace him to get ready and (remember you're completely ready for your day, you can even start your day with working on the computer, doing things on your list to show him you can start your day even though he's not ready because there was a control he was trying to use to frustrate me) so I gave the impression I was completely ready to leave to take him to school and he was surprised I was ready and I didn't put effort into getting him ready, I didn't converse with him about it, no back and forth or showing my frustration, I just made it be nothing. I pretended to call the school so he could hear me on the phone and talk to the office and having a conversation about how the school day was and what the kids were doing (like he was missing out). I put the getting ready routine on him and gave the impression I wasn't bothered by it and that I could still do my day (morning), I didn't keep checking in with him. I wanted him to know he was missing out on school things (since he liked school) and he didn't like being late or missing a day. He was very upset with me that he wasn't ready for school and that I made him late. I didn't go back and forth with him to escalate anything, I was calm and acted like I didn't care (I knew he would care about being late). He really improved on pacing himself after that.

I was also super slow like Azalea - still am. My mind and body are just so slow to wake up and it is hard to be fully present for the first couple of hours. Best thing my parents figured out was getting as much prep done the night before. Picking out clothes, shoes, having my school bag packed and ready at the front door. These are habits I carried into adulthood and has made that first few hours of waking up much easier. Having the same morning routine weekday to weekend also helped with getting out of bed on time and still does. Our bodies all function a little different in ways here or there. For some, it takes time to dial in and write a script that works with the life style at hand. Right now its all about helping her find the tools she needs for the tasks at hand.

Feels like your organic personality is coming through more, feeling relaxed and loving ourselves can not be underestimated as to the value and peace it brings to our lives - keeping it simple is now the only way for me. Doesn't mean I'm not ambitious about certain aspects of life, I just don't sweat what I've realised is the small stuff. Small stuff being mainly not trusting the voice of the inner critic since its based only on past and not presence. Hugs from Somerset. xx When it comes to your daughter she is also teaching you so its good to get that balance. Don't be hard on yourself it doesn't help you or Azaela. Everyone is different and as far as calling names like snail just be careful she doesn't take it as a negative. You guys are great parents and have shown her a diversity of life now she is trying to own what is her way- it all washes out in the end. We learn to let things go and pick our battles. Bottom line she will be an amazing person, she already is and so are you. Much love. x

Love the painting! ANd yes, mothering and having a life beside of that is so hard! For the morning Azalea situation. What I would do is make morning cards with a little deck on the wall in her room. With for example three things to do. With a little card, so first would be putting on clothes, next brushing teeth and after eating. To make her morning more predictable. She is probably very overwhelmed hence why she is so slow. You can have one in her room and one in the kitchen. If you google daily routine cards for kids you will find a lot of examples. Try to make her week days as much the same as possible. Another thing I would do is make her prepare her outfit the night before. So she can choose it in the evening before she goes to sleep and in the morning she just have to put it on. I have worked with mental disabled and autistic adults and a lot of things we did there are so suitable for kids too.

love these ideas. I think we are learning she is much like us and when we get stuck into routine too much the same it gets boring and we crave change, so we are trying to work through that realization with her too

She might benefit from going to bed a little earlier. I remember when my son started going to school, There were many nights he would go to bed at 6pm, he’d just fall asleep on his own. After sleeping through the night, he’d have a really hard time waking up. Children at that age, sometimes need up to 13 hours of sleep a night. Those first years of school, are exhausting for little ones. Also, I did a multi Children’s vitamin. Their little growing bodies need so much nourishment. I had some really rough mornings with my child as well. It’s so sad to me because it went so fast. I know while you’re living through tough child stages, it can feel frustrating but I suggest savoring every moment with her. Personally, I wasn’t prepared for my son to grow up. Enjoy your precious little girl, while she’s still little. I know you already do. ❤

BTW, the slowness in the morning is the same here with my kiddo who turns 5 this April. The only thing that helps her move along so far (without me showing frustration) is role-playing some scenario in which it is necessary to go faster. Things like having to get away from a monster or something, or having to go save someone and needing to get our stuff on . Depending on who she likes, use those characters. I made a little checklist for AM stuff and PM duties that she can refer to and check off as she goes along, that's helpful but I kind of forgot about it the past 2 weeks- she did enjoy doing it though! Time management is new around here as she wasn't in daycare or any kind of school before last September, and now I'm back in school and have her in at school daycare before pm pre k 3 days a week. It's only natural they resist. She just wants to play all day, so I try to make as many things we do into versions of play as possible.

Our little one is maybe just 1 year older than Azalea. She really likes the company of her parents around her all the time even if we are in the same house. I have noticed that when I accompany her to put her school clothes on, or brush her teeth or eat her breakfast; she lingers on those tasks much longer. She is old enough now to know hoe to pick out her own clothes and put them on her body, she knows how to brush her teeth and eat her breakfast so she doesn't need anyone's help. When she is guided towards those tasks and left alone, she accomplishes them much faster because she wants the company of a parent. No distractions!

If you continue to be a little concerned about your daughter getting dressed and wandering focus, have a chat with a paediatrician. It’s most likely just a normal phase but both my children and I have ADHD and Dyspraxia. Dyspraxia became noticeable in my son at around age 5 because he found it very difficult to dress at speed. It’s nothing to be alarmed about, just keep your eye on it. Tends to be genetic so if you have any cousins or other relatives with these conditions it might make more sense.

My son was the same. The two of you lay out clothes the night before (before bed) with one or two options bc children are spirit filled so they can be irrational. Remember that they live in theta. Which is where all adults wish to return to but we have responsibilities(Peter Pan). So giving her the illusion of choice helps with the I changed my mind game theta plays. Maybe as you pick out outfit have her imagine how she wants to look and feel so if she says I don’t want to wear what we picked out. You say I thought you wanted to feel like this or express this so they return to their desire. She has to learn how to balance spirit and responsibility/weather. Remember school is a new concept that trains you to follow orders. You’re raising a Goddess who gives orders. See the difference. If I was well off I would get private tutor. Maybe your like minded friends can pool resources and pay for a tutor and art instructor. I’m guessing 50K for tutoring 5-10 students is better than 40 children. Her education would be specialized. I would have her take equestrian, archery and music instruction classes. This way you are in control of her upbringing and she has a social outlet. These other families would have to work together maybe take excursions that the tutor thinks would broaden the children’s perspective. I think they call these pods. I think if she takes those state run tests and pass they won’t give you a problem about unenrolling her from school. Wealthy ppl have private tutors, why can’t we regular self aware folks have them? I don’t mean “Christian” un-education. I mean similar to Egyptian and Persian schooling where nine year olds learn the constellations, biology and algebra. I figure five to ten families putting up 5K for a private tutor and pool resources to give the children the education the need to gain/have knowledge of self. I’m sorry if this seems off putting but you are a self aware family that is showing the world how we are co creators. One way of doing that is shaping your children’s minds. Keep the magic in her day by reminding her how she made the choice of the outfit. She has options she’s chosen so it reenforces her desire for autonomy and independence like her cool, loving compassionate parents! Hey, Justin! Congrats on your success! Juby, you got this girl! Love, Trace

I wouldn’t tease her like that, involving her name. Little kids can get hurt by things like that and don’t always know how to voice how things make them really feel.

keep in mind Azalea is young and she doesn't have much concept of time like an adult does.... my grandson was like that when he was 3 4 and 5.... we are people who arrive everywhere at least 15 minutes early, so we began setting a cooking timer... Sully needed to be dressed, have shoes on and food eaten and teeth brushed by the time the timer dinged.. I would aslo do that with my god daughters nap time, she was 2 3 and 4 and she never once argued when the timer dinged, she wouls cheerfully shout "naptime" and run to the bedroom
@julianajubyyasmine9 ай бұрын
totally agree - we work with timers here and there, but sometimes she gets anxious with the deadline so we try to balance using them and not. And don't even get me started on nap time lol thats a whole other thing. She's kind of out of that phase, but definitely could use one once in a while, which she unwillingly takes sometimes...ahhhh kids lol

I have three kids my youngest is about to turn 5. I've learned that earlier bedtimes like literally in bed by 8 for all three helps everyone get enough sleep. My two oldest wake up on their own because of this. We don't give sleep all the master credit it deserves. We need to regenerate, we are all over stimulated by just living and breathing in this century. I would say she is your balance. At that age we are the most whole.
