That question is from paper 1 November 2017 in the year when Edexcel decided to make the exams crazy hard and the boundary for a 9 overall was below 80%. Maths Genie have a similar question in their predicted paper 3. I still can't get my head around it! I might just be happy to get 2 marks for working out one of the x values and double checking for errors elsewhere rather than spend an eternity on this and still get it wrong! Hopefully it won't come up!

Hey gcse maths tutor, I'm a higher level student and I wanted to go through your checklists to solidify my knowledge but I noticed that theirs a foundation checklist as well, with my previous exams I had plenty of time to check both playlists but now I don't, I was wondering as a higher student should I bother watching the foundation tier or no ? Thanks again sir
@TheGCSEMathsTutor2 жыл бұрын
No you only need to watch the higher videos on the higher checklist! The foundation videos will have been great to keep up with those lower grades topics and skills but it’s the higher video that you need for sure! 😁🙏🏼

Hi, I wanted to thank you for all the videos, they are really helpful. I am aiming for grade 8 or 9 and I believe I collected at least 120 marks for paper 1 and 2. Could you please give me a tip for paper 3 considering that I have a time management problem and English is not my first language? Thank you in advance
@myxion26712 жыл бұрын
for time management i would recommend you first go through the entire paper and do all the questions you find easy first. if you get stuck on anything skip past it and do all the questions you are able to do easily first. this means that you dont lose any easy marks by running out of time after getting stuck on a hard question if you sometimes have a hard time understanding the questions since english isnt your first language, it might be good for you to read through past paper and predicted paper questions to get an idea of the way questions are worded. also use my above tip if you are having a hard time with a question, dont waste any time on it until you have gotten all of your easy marks first, so you dont lose any more marks than you need to

It’s actually flipped over and moved around / rotated it’s a strange concept to demonstrate on a screen! It’s just the two side lengths swapped over 😁🙏🏼

4:45 this is where im lost. Can someone explain where that triangle he drew was for and where it came from?
@myxion26712 жыл бұрын
basically, similar triangles are triangles where all the angles are equal and the lengths are in the same proportion because the big triangle just looks like a scaled up version of the small one, it is easy to immediately assume that AC is just the scaled up vervsion of AB, but actually you can't know for sure that it is. The triangle he drew is basically showing that AC could actually be a scaled up version of AE, and that the triangle is flipped over so that AB and AE switch places before scaling up It doesnt look like that could be possible based on how the triangles look, because they look like they have equal proportions with the small one and are not flipped over, but the diagrams are not to scale and there isnt anything to prove that they arent, which is why you get 2 answers

How is 12cm the smaller length?
@rh6a2 жыл бұрын
12+3=15 which is the full length of the triangle side. you then divide 15 by 12 (12 being a part of the full length makes it the smaller length) so you can find the scale factor to get the smaller triangle into the larger one.
