I've been told that I mispronounced biscoitos. My apologies! I believe there are two different pronunciations-the mainland pronunciation and the Azorean pronunciation. How do you pronounce it?

I mispronounce most things, I’m self educated 😜

As a continental Portuguese from the area where we have a neutral accent (near Coimbra), I found your pronunciation understandable! Well done!

@klimtkahlo good to know, thank you! They pronounce it on the Azores very differently.

Absolutely loved this insight, history and culture of not just the recipe but of your state, Massachusetts. I’d love to travel there. Here I am sat in Madeira, what a coincidence and I almost couldn’t believe there were a large community of Madeiran emigrants. I actually read Moby Dick here last year but yet to visit the whale museum here 🐳 Very cute that you have a helper. Your videos are so relaxing to much and are getting better all the time. The music, voice overs and footage is exceptional, I totally appreciate the effort gone into this. I look forward to trying some of these and may have to do a video myself! Thanks for the superb insight & Keep up the great work. James

@@HappyHungryHibby It really is quite the coincidence that you're in Madeira right now! I'm impressed you read Moby Dick last year. I always make it to the chapter on the different types of whales and then can't get myself to read any further. 😆 Some of the footage in the video is from the whaling museum in New Bedford. I'm curious to know if the whaling museum is similar in Madeira!

@@BakeAcrossEurope Yeah, the book is so well written considering it’s so long ago. I just love the insight into Whales, it’s an incredible deep & interesting book. Hopefully get to visit the museum, as I’m here another week. I’ll let you know

Beautiful video. A journey back to my childhood here in Brazil, which of course was first settled (although colonized is the most accurate word in the case of Brazil) by the Portuguese. My grandmas in the mountains used to make biscoitos. Now I live on an island settled by the Azoreans and one can find biscoitos to buy easily here as well. Nowadays, biscoito, in Brazilian Portuguese, is a generic word for any kind of cookie (US) / biscuit (UK). Thank you for the lovely video!

My favorite comments are the ones in which people tell me that the video brought them back to their childhood! I'm happy to have brought back good memories for you. ✨️

Thank you for all the facts about the Portuguese community in Massachusetts, I had no idea about it. The cookies themselves seem quite easy to make, I can see why they are popular addiction to coffee or tea. Also big kudos to your daughter, it's always heartwarming to see children baking cookies 😍 So when can we expect pastéis de Belém on your channel? 😁

@@manuscriptsdontburn when I can work up the nerve to try puff pastry 😁 I know it is not as hard as I've built up in my head.

@@BakeAcrossEurope You can experiment with some puff pastry shortcuts, there are many of them on KZbin, you can check the the channel of Gemma Stafford, I remember she made one from scratch. Don't worry, it won't tell the French ;)

Now we need a recipe for “raivas” (rages). Those are delicious enjoyed with coffee or tea. They are thinner and crunchier than biscoitos. 😊
