A modular HT system allows you to carry only the gear your need to accomplish your goal. I prefer this over approach over a HT Go Box or HT Go Bag. In the future, we will take a look at the HF ham radio go bag box.

For the power bank, a good one to check out is "INIU 140W Power Bank". One of the reasons I switched to this one is because I am *also* playing around with having a highly portable electronics EDC pouch, and this power bank can run a Pinecil V2 soldering iron over USB-C PD at its full performance spec. And you can charge your HT off of it at the same time on a lower power port.

I’ve been intending to figure out how to charge my HTs from my Bienno. You saved me time and trial-and-error with this video. Thanks.👍🏼

Be sure to check that the HT will take 12V direct. Some will and some won't.

Thanks for sharing this. I've started carrying 2m and GMRS HTs with me pretty-much everywhere. We're in a severe wildfire risk area and I need a way to be in touch with people in my neighborhood if something happens while I'm out, even if it's just grocery shopping. A kit like you described (though my needs are much more basic) looks like a good way to go to keep things organized and easy to carry. I just used your link to order one of those EDC cases.

Boafeng Tech have the large batteries for the UV5R family which have USB-C ports. They also have a charging cable for the older large UV5R batteries with a charger port to USB-A

I’m thinking about how Helene hit just to my west and how amateur radio is standing out in all this. Some of the stories I’m hearing are around hams out there depending too much on their permanently mounted shack gear which meant nothing when the mud and water poured in. These kinds of go kits will mean a lot. I’ve been testing one of those roll up Slim Jim antennas and even from inside the house I’m hitting all the repeaters I would want to hit. Would love to see your take on an HF go bag.

Kinda wish I'd managed to get my hands on those tiny Alinco HTs from around two decades ago. But two decades ago I was young and comparatively poor. Hindsight is 20/20

Jason, saw your comment above about charging directly from 12V...where are you finding that info (specifically for a yaesu, but I'd be interested about other radios as well)? A quick check of the manual didn't yield anything... Would be super cool, but I'd rather not trial-and-error it!!

Look in the specs section of the manual. The FT5 manual for instance tells me that EXT DC Jack will take 10.5-16V for charging. The D75 has an imprint on the DC port cover that reads DC In 13.8. Please don't trial and error. No one wants to release the magic smoke 😜

Love my D74's but I just checked the pricing on replacement batteries -$109!!! That's insane. Batteries America has thenm for $54, but still that's insane for a battery. I wish the D74/D75 was more ruggedized than they are (similar materials for hte case like the VX6).
